Hey. I recently purchased the FV43U to replace my Philips BDM4065UC as main monitor for my PC. I did a lot of research before purchasing this monitor but didn’t find many reviews hence thought I would share my experience.
I have been using the Philips which was a 40” 4K 60hz monitor for the past 6 years and been very happy with it but it was time to change. I both work and game on my screen so was important to get a screen that worked for both work and gaming.
I am lucky enough to have a RTX 3090 and also as I my PC for work as well as private use the cost of any screen was a none issue to me.
I initially started looking at what 4K screens with 144hz refresh rate were available around 40” and there was only my really a couple of options, from ACER and ASUS. I expanded my search to 38” Ultrawide and eventually purchased the LG38GL950 as it had dry good specs and reviews.
I tried this monitor and have to say it was a fantastic monitor however I had to send it back after a few days as it was just way to small compared to my previous monitor.
I the pulled the trigger on the Gigabyte FV43U, at first I wasn’t sure as there had been reports of quality issues and dead pixels on various forums but I decided to order it anyway.
The monitor arrived next day from Overclockers great service as always. And after hooking it up to my RTX 3090 I have to say it looked great. No dead pixels, monitor looks and feels solid and without any setup it was running 144hz , 4K , G-Sync enabled , 10bit colour. You do have to play around with the settings a bit to find a picture mode that works for you. I also played around with HDR as the screen is HDR 1000 verifies and games and video that support HDR looks great but I find for everyday use and also most games running in SDR mode actually looks better.
using it for office applications etc is also great, and when using scaling which you really have to do on a monitor this size text is very sharp. I do a lot of word , excel and PowerPoint every day and there is absolutely no issues using this screen as your everyday office screen. Having a BGR subpixel layout is not something you notice at all so this for me is a non issue. The colours on the screen are absolutely fantastic and the colour range is amazing. The built in speakers are very good but I have them disabled as I use Bose desktop speakers. The OSD is great and having a remote control to control the OSD is very useful. There is also SW you can install on your PC to manage the OSD but found this a bit buggy and would some times freeze otherwise also very good.
I am sure people are going to start going on about how I should have got a LG 48CX OLED instead so let me say this. I actually have a 48CX TV and have also tried to use it as my desktop monitor and found it unusable. First 48” is way to large to (43” is almost to large but more manageable), screen reflections are very annoying, it was difficult to get a comfortable brightness settings for day to day work. Also pixel density was getting to a point where it was very noticeable sitting 3 feet away. It’s a very good TV so found it’s way into our guest room but as far as using it as a PC monitor for office work it was almost unusable. The FV43U on the other hand is great for both office work and gamin and both colours and black levels are very good but I did turn off local dimming as I found it better with it turned off.
