Hi.

I currently using:

AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz

Would upgrading to:

Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz

Would that be much of an upgrade@ would i notice the difference?

Thanks Sean

For what use?

I don't think it would be much of an upgrade.

Save your pennies and get an Intel setup if you want an upgrade.

Alternatively we will see new CPU's from both AMD and Intel this year. Waht and see is my advise.

Well id like to thank you guys for you simple answers :)

Thanks

Im using: Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

I did try overclocking once, but im not very good at it.

With that motherboard you absolutely should be overclocking, your current CPU isn't being utilized near what its capable of at the moment!

As for whether the two additional cores will make an upgrade worth while, it depends on what you are planning to do with it. Start by getting your current CPU overclocked and then see if its a bottleneck for whatever graphics hardware you are using.

To be honest though, unless you are running a high end sli setup, the CPU will be fine for any game that is reasonably well multi-threaded.

As others have said, its not really worth upgrading just for 2 more cores as you are mainly limited by the IPC and you can OC your current chip to similar/better levels to help this.

As long as your cooler is up to it (Which one are you using?) Then you should be able to achieve 4.2-4.5 ghz fairly easily and possible more. A Small fan over the VRMs may also help.

I had that cpu and mobo before and the chip hit 4.5 easy. It could have went higher but the vrms on the mobo were getting to hot.
