fx send/return?

I was looking at a portable cd i may be buying and i was wondering what 'fx send/return' is?

Sounds like a very bad translation from Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese. I'm wondering if it was some sort of input/output switch but unless it's a recordable CD I can't think why it would have input. Maybe it's some sort of effects switch, like extra bass or 3D style. What make is it?
