i have a DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D with a fx53 chip my card is a x1900xtx been looking at my upgrade options and wondered if swaping the fx53 for a Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ would be worth while ? its mostly games i play.thx

ever considered overclocking the CPU?
its just that the 4800 is the same clockspeed and the only advantage i see is it being dual-core and to sell your current CPU for say anywhere between £75-100 would still mean £75-100 cash ontop to upgrade to a dual core at the same speed. even with it being dual-core i personally wouldnt do it, unless you have some spare cash to do this upgrade?

thanks for the reply mate ,aye think i will try overclocking im just trying to squeeze a bit more life out of my motherboard and ram. ihave never overclocked before so will need to read up on it there was a guide i read on how to do it on this forum is it still around ?

I just upgraded to this spec, see sig, from a FX53 set up. The FX53 is a good chip but it does run mega hot, even under watercooling i was only able to clock it up to 2620mhz.

Im not really sure you will notice the difference in games as they dont use the 2 cores... It might be slightly better but nothing noticable, maybe someone else can comment on this.

Save the money and go for the conroe at a later date maybe? Probably all depends on how much your getting the x4800 for.

Yeah I've got FX53, X800XT, 2gb ram etc and I've decided just to sit back a bit at the mo (difficult for me as I always bought the top end at the time of release - try 700 quid for my FX53 (foolish I know).

My PC plays Half Life 2 and a few other bits n bobs fine (not mega but more than adequate). I just want to eek it out a bit more due to the fact I'm having to chuck away CPU,Graphics,Mobo,Ram,PSU to upgrade to a dual/quad core DDR2 setup.

No matter how creative I get with maths 8800gtx,mobo,cpu,ram,psu doesn't come in cheap :)

just the same mate and would imagine quite a few people in the same boat cant help feeling amd have shot them selves in the foot by not supporting 939 a bit longer because everyone thats going for the upgrade now will go conroe.

You more or less had simlar setup to me, my FX-53 cost about £550 lasted me around 2 1/2 years I think, I overclocked mine to 2.7Ghz on Air using a Thermalright Si-120 Heatsink.

You should be able to get around £80 for the CPU......
