Can't find too much info on these, but my mate wants to sell me his FX55 clawhammer core for 100 quid.

I currently have the 3500 winchester and running everything at stock at the moment.

Should I go for the FX55 even though its a clawhammer? Will I see a difference from this chip?

Cheers,
Scott.

You'd be much better off with a San Diego 3700 for under £100 from here brand new with warranty, they'll clock better, run cooler and have SSE3 support.

Sell the 3500+ off and buy the FX55. Should be a cheap but very effective upgrade.

Basically 400mhz+ with an extra 512kb L2 cache. The clawhammer will run a little more toasty though. ;)

edit: Above poster reminded me of the 3700+'s for £93. Buy the 3700. Runs cooler, and will clock high.

San Diego > Clawhammer

Don't go with the FX55 :)

I used to have the Clawhammer FX55

Heat is its biggest issue and i had trouble cooling it, even on water

The most i could personally get out of it stable, was 2.8 from 2.6 stock.
, although the unlocked multi was nice i could have just had a bad one.

I think i sold it for about £180 ish on the bay a few months ago to give you an idea.

Ah right. Thanks for the replies.

Well, if it runs a bit toasty then maybe its not a good idea. Air flow in my case is poor (despite having a 120mm and 2x80mm fans and I'm running at stock and my PC turns into a room heater when playing any demanding games. Its the graphics card that pumps out the heat, but I can't be doing with any more heat than I already have.

The San Diego's look interesting though.

Id buy it without even thinkikng about it. You cant lose on this one.

You can do 2 things :

1. Try it, 400MMhz quicker than your winnie. Stick a freezer64 on i, it will be fine. If you like it, flog your winnie for £50. So then you have an FX55 for £50

2. Sell it on again for £150 - £180 ( at least ). Also sell your winnie for £50. So theh you have at least £200 for a CPU.

Then you got 2 more options.

1. SD 3700+ for £93 - Pocket £107 :)
2. X2 3800+ for £170 - Pocket £30

As i say you cant possibly lose out on this one.
