My 3yr old [email protected] is showing its age now, Its being beaten by a £150 pc with a amd 4200 x2 2.1gh, But I dont care, it still plays all games fine. About a year ago my fx55 would been thrashing it hands down, cos there wernt meny apps and games that supported dual core then:D

My E6600 vs your FX55 :D .

Nah but seriously I remember when FX series were the be all and end all, oh how things change..

i got an fx-55 right here in the rig i'm using to type this :D

love fx-55 <3

sold it to my mate 18 months ago, still miss her :( :D

Yeah I will be sad when I have to get rid of mine, but Im going to see if i can squeeze a few more months out of it when crysis comes out with a 8800gtx card or better :p

Well, Showing its age or not, my FX-55 has a rating of 4.3 (calculation per second) in the CPU on windows vista, wereas my laptops' 1.66 dual core has a rating of 4.7 - but everything the laptop does is at least half as fast. CS2 photoshop takes 32 seconds o load up on the laptop, but only 15 on my desktop FX-55 based computer. Same trend with many other programms too. MS word 17 secs on laptop, but only 5 secs on FX-55. Possibly has a bit to do with the hard drive mind :) But hard drive or not, my FX-55 and my desktop make my laptop look slow by comprison.....

you'd need new cpu, mobo and ddr2/3 ram tho if you were to get a new system i'd keep your system for now until you really need to upgrade it.

i wouldnt mind a q6600 G0, but nothing wrong with my 3.7ghz core2, i wouldnt be using any programs/games that use 4 cores either so im sticking with my setup until pcie2 boards, 45nm cpu's etc are out and upgrade in 6-12 months or so instead.

Just built a new system but still have my old FX-55 system aswel, I don't know what I am going to do with it yet.

I could sell it or maybe use it to Lan game on, it has 2gb of ram and an 7800 gtx gpu so it's still good enough to run most games at high settings.

you'd get 50+£ for it on an auction site easy, but its too good for that, keep it in the family.

I would get a little more than that for it I would think :D , It's in a Coolermaster Wavemaster case and has a 19" hyndia lcd and Tagan 480 watt psu.

I think atleast £60?

FX series CPU's were great back in a day.

I even had a FX51 on a socket 940 board when they were the bee's knee's :p

Once the A64 skt939 Opty's came out, FX's really for air users anyway went out of the window.

For general stuff, FX's are still very capable, they are great for second rigs.

Or you could do what I did, sold my FX51 and Asus 940 Mb with ECC memory, AGP gfx card and cooler, and got a cheap core2duo, second hand mobo some ram and a cheap cooler and clock it to 3.2Ghz for free. About 3 times the performance of the FX51 and it ended costing me about 50 quid to upgrade :)

Oh yea, there is no doubt that C2D's are the king these days.

Depending what you need your pc / laptop means what spec to get.

Atm, Im using my laptop with a Celery 2.8GHz and 256MB ram to type this, works decent enough for me :D

i bought an amd 4800 dual core a while back. at the time it was cutting edge and i couldn't believe the performance. now i'm on quad core intel and it would seem like a snail, and i just sold the 4800 on ebay. bought it for £480, and sold it for £180.

so depressing that when you buy the best of stuff it becomes rubbish so quick. :(

Why don't you pickup an Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ for £39.94, if you get a nice overclock out of it then you have a fast dual-core breathing some new life into your machine, then flog the FX-55!

I'm slowly overclocking a batch of them and so far they look promising. . .
