I wouldnt really say that FX57 @ 3GHz would be much a bottleneck.

Faster rams / tighter timmings would help though with performance to get a little increase ;)

The psu is a little over kill too ;)

Yes it would run fine. You will get very good performance from the pair.

Even with the C2D's around, an FX57 @ 3GHz is nothing to be sniff'd at ;)

They would be better than the generic stuff that you have got now.

They would run @ 2-3-3-6, possibility of overclocking further than the stuff that you have got now.

lol  i'd have to strongly disagree. ram timings don't make one bit of difference when it comes to real gaming. seriously, how many frames per second difference will be gained by spending 211notes on that ram? it's all about the amount nowdays - his 2gb of pc3200 is just fine. if he wants to overclock, why not take advantage of the unlocked multi on his fx57.... :)

Would have to agree, I've always been a hardcore RAM fan but since AMD64 arrived the gains of RAM overclocking aren't worth the price you pay. 2Gb of PC3200 on a S939 rig are fine for gaming, I use some cheapo Samsung with a mild overclock and my system flies along.

I'd agree too... aslong as you don't have really bad RAM it doesn't make much odds to gaming... when I was building my conroe rig I had some value RAM @ 667 5-5-5-15 now I have some performance RAM doing 1005 4-4-4-12 and the framerate difference in games is less than 5% I think 3D Marks 03 was only 1000 points difference (out of a total score of 35-40K)

Many Thanks for all your help , i might buy the 8800GTX or GTS but i am not sure which one , i must say not a great games player on pc , i only play FPS most of the time. Cpu & motherboard next year . Maybe i should have waited for dual core , but the trouble is with pc stuff you don`t know what around the corner and its on the move all the time , i have not got a mega money . Happy Christmas to all :) :) just been reading in a local magazine that AMD are to release FX-74 :)

Roll on PS3 :)

i could be wrong but isnt a 8800GTX/GTS a little overkill? as your monitors a 19" LCD and only puts out a max resolution of 1280x1024? is the 7800 not cutting it for newer games when putting all the detail on or ?

Maybe but at least he wil be able to use max in game settings and max AA/AF.

a fx-57 at stock 2.8 would run great with a 8800, as for ram since i got my ocz 2gb 2-3-2-5@200 my games run smoother and i noticed a big difference in r6 vegas

merry xmas all
