As per the title really.

I have an opty 146 that is stable at 2.81 on air.

However I fancy a dual cpu. So in an Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe which would be the better Cpu the FX60 or the Opteron 170/175? I would like to get to 3Ghz.

Thanks for the help!

You'll struggle to get 3ghz atm from a dual core tbh.

The latest FX60s are struggling to even get 2.8ghz. But it will be the most likely chip to hit 3ghz.

As for the 170s and 175s. You'll have the most luck getting a higher clock with the 170s.

What cooling are you going to use?

Agent.

I had not decided yet, Depends on how noisy the Accellero 2 is on the crossfire setup when I get them.

If they are ok then I will think about that Coolit Freezone phase rig, or if the graphics coolers make too much noise then I'll go back to a custom water setup.

Basically I want the fastest AMD CPU out there thats available NOW lol.

I could wait for AM2 or conroe (although I am going crossfire) but the missus will have a fit if I upgrade again too soon. I replace tha PC every 2 to 3 years and then dont bother for another 2 to 3 years.

From the reviews I've seen, the FX-60 isn't going any much beyond about 2.9. Dunno how it'd do with the RX 3200 chipset (which seems to be better than the NF4 it was tested on where I've seen it).

not much better, doesnt scale very well

2.6ghz can be done [email protected]
2.8ghz can be done [email protected]
2.86ghz can be done [email protected]
anything above will bench but not prime stable

i gave up on prime stabitly, if it doesnt crash on games or benches then i cant be bothered to turn it down, i just give it 1.55v and 255x12 and try to teach it not to pee me off
