Would there be a noticable difference going from my [email protected] to for instance a 2mb conroe at 3.0? The 6300 seem like a good deal.

I use my main PC for gaming, some video editing and photoshop work mainly.
Is there anyone here who went from AMD Dual Core to C2D? What are your thoughts?

Finally, It seems most are using the ASUS boards for clocking the C2D. I would like something similar to the A8N-E, ie. not too advanced but yet with good ocing features.
Finally, is C2D clocking tricky? :)
Thanks for any input.

The conroe at 2.5 beats a stock fx 62 but tbh i can't see the point in you changing, you already have a fast cpu. You would have to buy new ram etc am guessing as yours is ddr1 ram ?

I have my Allendale as the 6300/6400 not classed as conroe as they have half the cache, but on the GA-965P-S3 i just put the ram divider down and the cpu clock on 430fsb that was it that gave me 3.10 gig no probs maybe can go higher not tried yet.

if you can get a decent price for the fx62 (am2?) then its worth changing over sooner.

you should have a bit of change after changing the board / cpu to the intel combo. Use that to get some decent memory if you havent already.

hes not using a FX62 hes using a opty 165

I went from an X2 4200+ @ 2.6Ghz to a E6400 clocked to 2.6Ghz and its a lot faster. Cut a good 10 seconds off super PI 1mb times

In gaming ive not noticed a huge difference really but im still very pleased :)

Like they said - you're already running a fast CPU - why bother unless you can make money out of it?

I've had a look at a few benchmarks and the FX-62 beats a few lower-end Core2Duos in several benchmarks. If you get a 6300 and the overclock doesn't go to plan you might end up with lower performance than you've got now.

Have a butchers at some benchies before starting. Tomshardware's got quite a few in one place to start you off.

I went from an opty 170 @ 2.8ghz to my conroe running at 3.8ghz.

The difference is massive.

Even at 3.0 ghz that a 6300 will easily do will be so much faster.

I would upgrade.

Its a no brainer especially because you video edit.

Cheers, good info.

I think I can get £200 for the CPU and A8N-E mobo here in Sweden.
The 6300 is around £130, a decent mobo with similar features to the A8N-E for conroe costs?

I need to get new ram anyway as the BH-5 is sold. Was looking to get 2gb low latencie modules, but DDR prices are on the up. If I can find a decent 2gb kit in the MM I'll get that. If not I'll sell and re-kit entirely.

How power hungry are the Conroes? Something like the Opty?

For a decent board, take a look at the Gigabyte DS3, you should be easily able to ramp the E6300 up to 3GHz+. The only reason I can't get mine higher is that I got unlucky on the my ram (G.skill HZ micron D9 based that wont do above 860MHz)

They are working on a bios to resolve this issue.

easyrider - do you know what your orthos stable point is yet?? looking over on XS it seems most good 975 boards max out at 420fsb ...some like the asus p5w64 are hitting 450.

so can the ds3 do 470-500 orthos stable??

reason i ask is i want to get a 6600 to use under single stage but unless i can hit 460/470+ 24/7 i'm not too interested in conroe.....benching isn't my thing.

maybe i should just wait and see how RD600 performs.

Not true, check out the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA ;)

That mobo is carp.

Wont overclock very well and completey goes against what getting conroe is all about.

Conore needs high band width DDR 2,ok there are a few mobos that can run conore with DDR1 but there is just no point in doing this.

I can prime for hours at 3.8ghz 9x 425

Not sure wether the G skill is holding me back with this mobo.Using the DS3 for the time being.
