so Im building a system up for my nephew and Ive got a board with a 1090t in it but ive just discovered ive still got my old FX6350... also got an FX6100 but that's got a broken pin...

so which would be best?

yea I was thinking for games the 6350 would be better. Ill stress test both and if both are good ill give him the FX and sell the 1090t

I was under the impression that the 1090t actually had better IPC than the FX series but perhaps might not clock as well?

In this situation it would come down to how good the motherboard is.

Ill do a few benchmarks and see what both come in at and post up the results. Im waiting on my replacement PSU before I can do anything though.

That might have been closer to the truth when PD launched, but since PD has a much more comprehensive instruction set, when they're used, a PD will be faster clock for clock
