FX9590 Air Cooling possible?

aircooled

No, you'll be better off getting an AIO water cooler.

High end air and AIO are pretty similar in most cases.

Out of interest why a 9590? Quite pointless going down that route, what do you already have (hardware wise?).

Gents & Ladies

Does anyone have an FX9590 & have it aircooled?

Is it possible to have it run stable?

I already have the CPU

Cheers
yes. amd include a 120mm aio with it in there bundle so any good dual tower hair cooler will be fine. loads of people run fx8350 and 8320 at 4.7ghz on air and that is what it is. an nh d15 or thermalright silver arrow or similar will work fine.

What I find crazy is that in quite a few games even an i3 beats the 9590 for FPS. Just seems nuts. Hopefully this will change as support gets more and more multi-core though.

Don't hold your breath. Nothing will magically turn AMDs current offerings into winners. They just aren't that good, and aging.

Even dx12 and the "More and more multi core support" won't change the fact that an i5 > AMD CPUs in most situations, Let alone i7s. Ow and also in general you will get a newer/better feature set on Intel based motherboards.

AMD cpus / APUs are decent for low end builds, not much else.

yes, its possible, but not so easy...I have CM V6GT , my CPU working at stock P-states, only CPUNB is at 2600 MHz, undervolted cpu vcore to 1.44V (FX-9590). With longer video encoding are my temps high. So Im not sure, if this cooler an handle CPU at stock VID. I had H220 Swiftech and this cooler was -10 C better with this monster CPU.

This, and this!

No idea why people are so obsessed with AIOs, nor do I understand why anyone would buy a 9590 :/

Yes it is possible but you'll need a very high end cooler and excellent air flow in your case to make it work well. I'd rather go AIO or custom loop with such a behemoth of a CPU, but it's up to you. A good AIO will outperform the best air coolers in most cases.

;) hard to argue with the value for money proposition of free! Having said that, it's the same chip as you've already got really. How does your current cooler handle your chip when you overclock it as far as you can?

the best choice for some air/aio oc is still new FX-8370/8370E. For middle budget air cooler is after the ebst choice 8320e (with "low" 1.4V scaling up to 4800 MHz! )

See picture above.

You could lose two fans and become able to add and remove memory without having to remove your heatsink.

Yeah I'm not a fan of AIOs particularly but they do leave far more space for changing ram and so on. Not only that but you can fit the rad directly to the outside face of the case to get cold air in from outside, so temps are usually very good.

The only air cooler I would consider now is the NH-D14 and 15 and they're piggin' HOOJ. I had a 14 before and changing ram was a nightmare.
