FX9590 bizarre turbo issue

Yes I have an FX 9590

After much tweaking and benchmarking I have discovered that my performance drops significantly when Turbo Core is enabled!

If I fix the clock speed at 4.7GHz I get better results than if I let it turbo up to 5GHz.

Some examples:

Firestrike Physics score drops from 8823 to 8281.
Cinebench R15 drops from 744 to 716.

I can reproduce these results every time. Any ideas? I am using a Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard.

Is your CPU throttling back when using turbo mode?

Have you tried fixing all cores at 5 GHz and rerunning?

Either a heat or power delivery issue I would have thought.

In Firestrike, the CPU clock speed never drops below 4.7GHz. I have also tried running all cores at 5GHz and this works fine.

I could, but it does require quite a high voltage. Really I want the turbo working properly, but mostly I want to know why it's slower!

Ah, fair enough. I haven't used turbo so I'm not much help I'm afraid. Since you say it needs a high voltage to reach 5Ghz, could it be that it doesn't bump up the voltage enough to get the turbo frequency? Try putting a slight positive offset and see if it still happens
