G.Skill DDR3 wont run at stock 1600mhz speeds...

Hi all, just recently got around to building my pc up, been running it for a day or so now at stock speeds to test stability.

Just lately tried overclocking my cpu, my ram: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-042-GS wont run past 1333mhz, even though its supposed to operate at 1600mhz.

So therefore, if i overclock my cpu, even from 2.83ghz to say 3ghz and the memory speed goes over, say 1410mhz for arguments sake, windows locks up and things. To overclock my cpu (so far 3.2ghz) i need to keep my memory at 1333mhz or below.

Any ideas whats wrong? Spec is in sig.

I must add the motherboard states DDR3 memory can be overclocked to 2000mhz, im not sure what safe ram volts to use if this is what i have to do.

so i enable this XMP?

never heard of it before, first ddr3 set.

edit: tried with XMP enabled, it showed as 1600mhz but wouldnt boot with my overclock.

XMP settings were:

Auto (this is what was set originally)
Profile1
Disabled

What voltages have you set your RAM to?

I'm guessing as the board you have is fairly old now, that the G-Skill will not be on the QVL. Try putting it to 1.65v in the bios, as this is what it is rated at.

After a quick google I found this, the tester here states he had a bit of a mare getting any sort of overclock on the RAM, and ended up having to put 2.0v through it.

Ok thanks for the link, i set it at 1.66v in the bios, i currently have my cpu overclocked to 3.9ghz (havnt tested stability yet) and my ram is running over the 1333mhz, something like 1480mhz.

--yeah i was looking at i5 mate, couldnt find any decent heatsinks for it - also i read on this forum some of the pins on the i5 socket are burning from the overclocking.

Also if i sold this Q9550 which is new, i would have lost a bit of money, so it stayed
