G.SKILL Trident X F3-2400C10D-16GTX on Z97 with 4790K Solved

Hello,

My setup is:
Mobo: gigabyte z97x-ud3h-bk rev. 1.0
Bios version: F6
Ram: G.SKILL Trident X F3-2400C10D-16GTX
CPU: i7 4790K
Windows 7 64-bit

All bios settings are on default and only on board sound off and xmp profile on for ram. Problem is no matter what i cant pass hammer test (test13) from memtest86. When i do things in windows and play games like bf4 or wow there is no problems but when i do have:

World of Warcraft
Skype
Team Speak 3
OBS streaming to twitch.tv
all above on i do have random freezes and my pc will reboot. After checking blue screen viewer its showing me memory problem.

Its looks like it my be really ram issue as i cant pass 1/4 cycle in memtest86.

This is what i did so far:

All drivers ware up to date, malware, antivirus check, ssd drives without problems, all benchamrks for stability looks like they give me pass result like BurnInTest 8.0.

In bios i did try switch off xmp and do manual settings from the sticker but still test did fail, switching on xmp profile and still test did fail.

I dont know what to do at this stage to make it work at 2400! If there is anyone who had similar issue and could help it would be great or if you have any ideas what i could test or try please let me know here and i will check it.

Post up teh timings you have at your disposal in bios ie screen shots and also voltages available to you and I will suggest some stuff.

Also test each stick XMP one at once so you can see if one stick has errors and others are fine or indeed all has issues which is probably a timings voltages issue. When using four sticks timings often need adjusting from dual channel config as extra pressure on IMC.

WOW!!! Thank you so much for having time to look at my problem 8Pack.

OK here below are all my settings and photos including info of my spec:

Go memory voltage 1.65V. IMC voltages SA +0.25, IOA + 0.2, IOD + 0.1. Timings TRFC 400 TWL 9 to start with. Test!!!

Which ones i should change and on dram voltage i can do or 1.64 or 1.66 there is no 1.65. i did set 1.66 and running test. What stats i should change and which way?

Update from 1h ago. My pc did switch off by it self and i did get 1 long and 2 short bips. I couldnt switch on pc again. I did unplug psu and did plug in one from server and did boot. I think my psu just did die. Its any chance my psu did cost that unstability? I will order new one and check with new one and let you know. Any recomendation for my setup? I think 650 is max i need with my 980gtx no overclocking.

Possibly yes PSU could be issue. Go with decent 750w better to have too much and 750 not overkill.

OK i did bought :

Seasonic X-Series 650w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply

Should be tomorrow. Atm taking my pc to parts nad will check my 980GTX if its working in my other pc. Will keep updates asap.

Update1:

My old psu Corrsair HX750W still on warranty as they have 7 years warranty and i bought it May 2010. I think something is burned out as its have bad smell but we will see tomorrow when new psu arrive i will plug it and try power up. Will give update tomorrow.

Update2:

New psu did boot up pc and all looks like works fine on new psu. Testing ram atm. I do rma my old psu as did fail paper pin test. Did get approved by corrsair to send it back. Will update as soon mem test will finish.

Update3:

Did fail on hammer test again.

Question is if this is the only way to test ram and how bad impact it have to pc health if i leave it how it is? Did pass all tests only did fail on this hammer test no matter what i change and with new psu. Will keep trying testing meaby tomorrow but form that what i see many people have errors at 2400 in hammer test and they don't have any problems with system.

have you tested each stick individually yet ?
est 13 [Hammer Test]

The row hammer test exposes a fundamental defect with RAM modules 2010 or later. This defect can lead to disturbance errors when repeatedly accessing addresses in the same memory bank but different rows in a short period of time. The repeated opening/closing of rows causes charge leakage in adjacent rows...

Ok, will do it tomorrow as its looks like my old 16gb of kingston have errors on hammer test to. My system is stable now but only cant pass hammer test at 2400. Will try go 2133 and some settings from 8pack at 2400. Meaby my cpu is very weak tahts why dont like oced memory. Will give update after 2 days of testing.

Maybe a bit more ios/d Sa? Found even with 8gb I need 1.200 on each of these once I start to OC the CPU.

but i dont oc anything, i just want my ram at 2400 thats all. But when i set ram high i set cpu to right? Its Z97 with 4790K. Doing some tests right now, will give update in few hours.

OK!! Guys i don't understand anything from it! As last try i did decide to put again Kingstone ram(my old one) to slots and run test. This is what I get so far:

zwiBGOzh.jpg

This ram is 4x4GB with 2400 11-13-13-30 1.65v. I did notice one weird thing what happen when I was switching on my pc after putting ram to the slots. Pc did boot up but my screen was blank for good 10 sec. I fought i did put ram in wrong order or something but there was no sound from mobo(error code). Pc did switch off and on again(like pressing reset button) and as soon bios screen did shwow up i did press delete to get in to the bios. I did set up Profile 1 (where weird is this Kingstone have 2 profiles nr.1 with 2400 11-13-13-30 1.65 and nr.2 with 2133 11-13-13-30 1.65v) and put usb with memetst to test the ram as last try for today. So far I can't explain it.

3h without error with 2/4 pass is enough or i should keep it going?

I know so far PSU was faulty and i did replace it. I did run few tests with Kingstone and G.skill ram at 2400 with no success! I did so much different setting with this ram and i think i did put them in right order in slots and new psu with stable power did the job! Dont see any other solution for my problem.

Now guys quick question. Should i keep them Kingstone 16gb(4x4gb)11-13-13-30@2400 1,65v or i should keep trying G.Skill 16gb(2x8gb)10-12-12-31@2400 1,65v? I dont need anything atm overclocking wise or anything like that as my cpu is more than i need at4,4ghz and ram at 2400 with this timings for games and sony vegas/fraps/stream.

WHat are you suggestion guys in this cause?

Thank you all for help. I will stay with Kingstone. As far my system is stable and 2400. I fought kingstones ware bad but it was psu and looks like my mobo dont like g.skill as i dont want to play around with setings for ages. Is still same 16gb @ 2400 only timings ware lower at g.skill but i will not feel diffrenc with that what i do anyway. Then all what i can say as solution to my problem was PSU. Setting ram/profile @ 2400 is diffrent story.

CPU System Agent, CPU Digital, CPU Analogue +0.230V each, increase to +0.250V if needed.

DRAM 1.76V (droops lower)

Memory enhancement: enhanced stability

CPU VRIN 1.9V Turbo

CPU Ring Voltage 1.2V

The above gets me stable with 32GB 2666 MHz DDR3 G.Skill Trident RAM on my 4790K @ 4.8GHz :D. No errors at all in memtest 6 with the hammer test. I even had to increase voltages even with the CPU at stock freq.

Keep memory timings auto.

If all else fails you must have a weak IMC.
