Hi ,

Woofff the speed of change at the moment in forums regarding g skill mem has got me all lost .

Im expecting a delivery in the morning with all the parts to build my FIRST ever machine

I asked advice on about 5 diffrent forums regarding ram ,Everyone was singing the same song G Skill G Skill G Skill G Skill .....At the end of it all i decided to go with the GSkill HZ .... but then in a flash within hours things changed  .

I started seeing reports of problems with G Skill and ASUS mobo's , I was told i might be better off with the G Skill ZX as i would not be doing any over clocking ....The price for the ZX was the same as the HZ on special this week so i thoght ok ... i will change my order .

The thing is , I just whant to be totaly sure about what to do , can anyone shed some light on this for me .

Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+

BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC

Thanks in advance

You aren't clocking so you only need 200mhz RAM in which case the ZX is the best option as it has tight timings at 200mhz (the tightest for 1GB sticks currently :)).

No pressure then...

From G.skill's webbie: Recommended Motherboard : AMD Socket 939 motherboards. They were designed for DFI's but so long as you have nForce4, there really should be no problem.

** Hangs up Phone ** :D

Thanks smids , I realy do appriciate it .

Can you even imagin how i feel right now , First build , spent cash i can't afford to spend and i start seeing horror storys

Thanks man ;)

No problem. I was apprehensive before my first build - January 2005 (built 2 at the same time, took me 8 hours). Now I've moved on to watercooling and can do pretty much anything required for problem solving etc. It's also a great sense of achievement rather than paying the purple shirts at the store whose name we shall not mention :).

Just do everything slowly. My second build took 2 hours, and after that, about 1 hour. Take your time and do not rush, checking everything over twice more. About the financial side - tell me about it, I'm a Uni student :p.

I have been planning this since december , I have done about 20 diffrent spec's , Changed em then done them again , I have however learned a load of stuff that would have normaly just gone over my head

I plan to take a load of time to do my build , I will check every thing 10 times over ( like that anyway with anything i do ) and make sure i read every bit of paper that comes with every part .

Now that the panic is off over the G Skill i can go back to scanning all the forums for tips and hint's... been doing it for weeks :D

If your a Uni student and have no cash ... its prolly coz you spend it all on beer and wacky backy :D

Nice one smids ;)

 Looks like i might have to start learning about overclocking ...

I just looked at my email and seen on the delivery notice that thay have sent the HZ and not the ZX.... I hope this will not be a probblem for me .

I don't wnat to have to send them back as i want to get this build done .

Will i be ok with the HZ untill i start to look in to overclocking ?

I just whant to do some gaming ... FEAR :D

Thank's in advance .

Hmm, thing is, those HZ don't run tight timings at 200mhz, they will go to about 2.5-4-4-7 but will default to running a 3-4-4-8 at 200mhz (ZX runs much tighter at 2-3-2-5 1T @ 200mhz). So it will be like running a Value Select 2GB kit until you make adjustments to run at 250mhz on the RAM. You really ought to try and get the ZX for your usage...

By all means, it will run fine but will not run anywhere near potential until you make adjustments. It will run like the cheapeast 2GB kit you can find probably until you learn about RAM timings or OC'ing.

Still waiting for my stuff to arrive just to see if it is HZ or ZX that falls out of the box .

As long as it will run im fine , I will just have to get savvy on the Overclocking .... It can wait thogh

Maybe you could give me some one on one at the point that i do start :D

I will let you know what comes in the post ;)
