Hi guys,

I'm thinking about buying a G-sync monitor, but I have a couple of questions which I can not seem to find a clear answer for online.

With V-Sync OFF and ONLY G-Sync ON does G-SYNC on it's own cap your FPS to the monitors refresh rate?

Thanks for the help :)

You have 3 options with G-Sync enabled:

-V-Sync: On - Caps to the monitor refresh rate - G-Sync always in effect so no tearing.

-V-Sync: Off - Renders as fast as possible - G-Sync in effect within the G-Sync range of the monitor - disabled when you can render above the refresh rate which will run at whatever framerate your GPU can pump out but will have tearing obviously when not in the G-Sync range.

-V-Sync: Fast - Renders as fast as possible but only displays on the monitor those frames that fall within the G-Sync window - can reduce input latency over V-Sync on but doesn't provide a benefit in terms of seeing things sooner like V-Sync off can do.

Great reply by Rroff there, id add, that supposedly with vsync on, you wont get any of the 'lag' associated with vsync unless at the fps cap. below it there is no vsync. (assuming you use gsync) some people use an fps limiter to cap the fps at a few frames lower than the max refesh rate instead, but some say that fps limiters can introduce microstuttering.

Not that i have ever personally noticed vsync lag, so i use gsync and vsync on, tried fast sync but id rather cap my fps and save heat/power usage.

One thing I seem to have is I can't permanently turn off vsync in the driver global 3D setting tab. It defaults to "ON" and if I force it off or set it to 3D program controlled, it will remember the setting for a few days, but then go back to the default ON by itself. Anyone else get this?

@Budo: Dont have a clue, but try and uninstall nVidia drivers/geforce experiance aka do a fresh driver install :)

And I having problem with fastsync, it just wont work. When enabled it will tear just as v-sync off. I have a Maxwell - gtx 970 and it should work but it doesent :/

Nope don't get it. In fact had opposite issue recently with latest nvidia drivers turning V-Sync off in global settings while G-Sync was on. Took a bit of time trying to figure out why I was getting tearing :o
