G-Sync/FreeSync

Hello again people.

A bit of a curious question, what is the difference between G-Sync and FreeSync monitors? I haven't followed the monitor industry very well at all in the last years (or at all I should say) so got no idea what you are going on about when talking about G-Sync and FreeSync.

Would be worth to learn a bit more for when getting my new GPU from what I've understood though.

G-Sync features are only supported on nVidia graphic cards, nVidia currently don't support FreeSync. (The monitors will work on both AMD and nVidia cards just won't have all features enabled if you don't adhere to the above).

While Freesync is using the universal VESA standard for adaptive sync, is not restricted to manufacturer because is open standard. And much cheaper because no custom scaller is required while even intel said gong to support it with their next gen of igps.

Sorry to muddy the waters, but some of the above information is not actually accurate.

As Rroff has said G-Sync is proprietary to NVidia, but FreeSync is actually proprietary to AMD.
As Panos has said FreeSync is based on the VESA standard Adaptive Sync, but it is this standard that is not restricted to any particular manufacturer, rather than AMD's proprietary FreeSync technology.

Intel did indeed tell Techreport last August that a they intend to support Adaptive Sync in the future.
