Hi,
Looking to upgrade to G sync, not through choice but my 6 year old OCUK DMG 24" 1080 died a death this week.

I am going for the
Acer XB270HA 27" G-Sync 144Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-067-AC&groupid=17&catid=948 £330

Just seems a no brainner to get 27" over 24" for 11 quid, but am i missing something, is the Acer model not as good or worse in some aspects?

Some people dislike the pixel pitch of 1080p at 27". Others seems to find it perfectly acceptable, though. I think it depends in part on how close you sit to your monitor. I haven't had experience of it personally, but I was put off the 27" Acer for that reason.

You're probably best looking into this issue yourself if can find somewhere to have a look at both 27" and 24" 1080p displays, but there may be someone along in this thread with personal experience who can advise you better.

I have the AOC G2460PG, and like it a great deal.

As for g-sync at >144fps, well, g-sync works best when you have frame rates that vary below the refresh rate of your monitor. If you're consistently putting out >144fps you'd probably get a better experience with ULMB rather than g-sync (you can't run both at the same time).

My experience does back this up, though I have to confess I don't fully understand the mechanisms behind it. In games like Crysis 3, which I'm just finishing, I'm getting frames rising and dipping around 40-60FPS, but with g-sync on the whole experience is completely smooth and stutter- and tear-free. With it off, you can really see the difference it makes. In games like Borderlands 2, though, where I have high and relatively stable FPS, I don't really feel the advantage of g-sync and can't really tell if it's on or not (I think I got some placebo effect from it on first use in this title, but taking a critical stance I can't really see it). In this game, ULMB is good as it reduces motion blur even further.

Some people also report increased input lag with g-sync on in situations where FPS>refresh. I don't know about that and can't say I've noticed, but I'm not going to speak on issues I don't know enough about so will have to leave that one for someone more knowledgeable to comment on.

I am a huge fan of g-sync right now, but only in situations where FPS is less than the refresh rate, and especially where it's variable.

I have one and its great, I came from a 22' Lg IPS, colours are nice once adjusted and g-sync and 144hz is a nice upgrade for me, I paid full price for this on release so about £400 with sat shipping and am very happy.

1080p is pretty soft on a 27" next to a 24". Whether that's acceptable or not is down to the individual, but its clearly not as sharp. I Wouldnt say it's hideous though, not at all.

What's wrong with it? can it be repaired? its normally the caps that need replacing. if the screen isnt hosed then try getting it repaired - you've got nothing to lose.

I tried to repair it but none of the capcitors looked to be damaged, i thought perhaps if i could tell which one then maybe worth soliding a new one on but there are quite a few...

I was ****ed when it happened but now quite happy at the thought of getting a g sync monitor! (plus i skipped it this morning)

Whats odd is the first time i toggled on DSR on my 970 was when the screen gave up.
I know its just a conicendence but i had that monitor for 6 years and the day DSR was turned on my 970 it gave up!

I was thinking about this, but with Nivida DSR it should help out if i do find the res to low.

Also i normally have to have windows DPI settings on medium 125% so this may prevent that.

Yeh dsr works well with my 970, have to turn down some settings, but as i said been on 1080p for a long time and it still feels like a big upgrade and i like it, quilty panel but then im no expert.

Yes i think this will feel like a huge upgrade for me.
24" to 27"
60hz to 144hz
as well as gsync of course, a bit annoying some games don't reportalbly work that well with it, Diablo3 i have heard of issues which is a shame as thats my go to game but hopefully a future patch will resolve the issues.

Glad to hear that the quality is good, thanks Drs101

one thing I had issues with was the Overdrive settings, when set to extreme it produced shadowing and ghosting so I left it at default, not played D3 with this but everything else seems to run great.

games i have been playing recently that are great.

BF3, BF4, Mavel Heroes (no G-Sync for some reason), Borderlands series, Dragon Age I, Shadow of Mordor.

Also just got hold of some 3D glasses and am testing them at the mo, takes a bit of fiddling and getting used to, but seems to work well.

I've ordered the AOC monitor. Does it come with a displayport cable? I believe this is the only cable it supports?
