G-Sync Monitors

Gsync and 144hz is awesome, but i havent seen that particular monitor in the flesh.
If you dont mind taking a risk on return postage you can order with a view to returning it as long as you keep it in good condition.

I did the same with a ROG Swift expecting to send it back and keep my 4K, but the 4K is now gone as the ROG opened my eyes to stutter and motion blur i had before

Just having 120+Hz is good - gsync is the icing on the cake but personally I don't use it more than I use it but nothing else comes close to the clarity it provides in some games where its really useful like left 4 dead.

I'm not sure its a big enough bonus unless you really really care about image fidelity to pay too much of a premium for though.

Even without gsync there is just little else that comes close to the clarity in motion and responsiveness of the ROG mind :D

I would say it's not worth £400 and the price will tumble now FreeSync monitors are about to hit the shelves on mass.

If you only ever plan to use uber high Nvidia video cards it makes a little more sense, as the framerate and refresh rate are linked. So to get a high refresh rate you need high frame rates.

What puts me off, is it has a lot of down sides.

1920x1080
TN
£400
Nvidia only GPU

Presumably you have an Nvidia GPU if you're looking at Gsync monitors so Freesync won't be any use to you unless you're prepared to wait 3-4 months and buy a new video card!

I can't comment on whether Gysnc (or Freesync) is worth the money as I've never seen it in person! What I would say is that nearly £400 is a lot of money for a 24" 1080p TN panel monitor! You'd probably get a comparable non Gsync 120/144Hz monitor for virtually half that price so you're paying a lot for the Gsync feature.

Hopefully someone else can advise whether the improvements in gaming warrant that kind of price tag?

How long do you plan on keeping this monitor? To be honest 1080p is kind of low res if you plan to keep this for 4-5 years.

Its 27 inch silv, it is also the only 1080p 27 inch gsync monitor... it is almost like nvidia worked hand in hand with partners so they didnt over-compete with themselves to drive prices down...

It is only something like 70-80 quid more than an equivalent nongsync one

Ok i really tempted by this monitor because of g-sync http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-067-AC&groupid=17&catid=948

is it worth the money? should i wait? i have £400 to spend on one.

are they that good??

input needed guys as its a lot of money

I still have my trusty Samsung SyncMaster 245b :-)

400 is a lot for 1080p as said and at 27" it's seems a tad pointless to me...Im in the same position as you....I'm toying with just getting a stop gap monitor like this

And waiting until March when freesync hits and Gsync will have to drop in price....
The 27" rog is dropping everywhere in price at the mo and it's the best gaming monitor on the market...

Either go for that or wait.....400 now is no mans land....cheap it up on a 1080p 144hz IMO is the wise move right now in the current climate....
Unless you have 599 for the Asus rog

Another thing to consider is the fact that at 1080p most games will be running way beyond the FPS gsync would show any benefit. Even a mid range card pushes 1080p at way beyond 60FPS.

Can gsync go low enough to be usable with old tv game systems/computers? Such as c64/Amiga or is it totally reliant on the nvidia gpu.

There is also the Philips 272G5DYEB, but availability seems patchy at best in the UK currently.

Funnily enough that is where G-SYNC is of most benefit on a 144Hz model. Even dips to 143fps cause tearing/stuttering conventionally, whereas with G-SYNC it appears and feels smooth. On a 144Hz model <60fps feels like the relatively low frame rate that it is regardless of G-SYNC. Smoother indeed, but still a shock to the system.
