G-Sync not working

Hey all,

I'm not 100% sure G-Sync is working on my PC. I have the settings enabled for both fullscreen and windowed mode G-Sync, however in two games I've played recently; Metal Gear Solid 5 and Hitman, I'm getting pretty horrific screen tearing.

For both the games, I've enabled V-Sync in the game, and it has fixed the issue - But I thought I had read before that I should be turning V-Sync off in games as I have G-Sync enabled?

I've tried using the "G-Sync Indicator" for both the games, and it says it is enabled - So not really sure why I am getting the screen tearing.

Any ideas? Unless I'm totally mistaken about the functionality of G-Sync/V-Sync?

Thanks,
Marky

Have you tried V-sync off in the games menu, but On in the nvidia control panel? That's how I set mine up

G-sync is for FPS below your monitors refresh limit. So if you have V-sync disabled and the FPS goes above the monitors max refresh rate, then you'll get tearing.

I.e if you monitors max refresh is 120Hz, and you set G-sync as On, but V-sync as off you get;

between FPS of 30 to 119 = G-sync and no tearing, 120fps onwards = tearing

If you set G-sync as On, and V-sync as On (in the NV control panel) you get;

between 30fps and 119 = G-sync no tearing, 120fps locked to V-sync, no tearing

Sorry I should have mentioned the monitor - I'm using DP on a 144hz monitor.

I haven't checked the fps honestly

Try this

G-sync on in NVCP
V-Sync on in NVCP
Refresh rate in NVCP Max Available

v-sync off in game

Use MSI aftrerburner / Rivatuner to set a frame cap of 1 below your refresh so 143

Now if you still get tearing something aint right.

There's not much help available without that info. Although I fear the issue may not be high frames as you have a 144Hz monitor. Is it 1080p or 1440p? I assume game settings are set high/ultra?

Set Gsync to be full screen only and vsync on in NCP but off in game. If tearing persists, then alt-enter to ensure the game isn't running borderless. If that doesn't work, try to alt-tab out and back.

personally dont like fast sync, and like above i use gsync and vsync set in the nv cp (turn it off in game). smooth at fps cap, no extra power/heat rendering extra frames your monitor cant display anyway, and remains smooth with fps drops.

Yer, it is subjective and I prefer it but a mates I set up said he doesn't like it.
