Hi Troops,

Has anyone tried a G-sync card on a freesync monitor yet?

I have an Acer Predator xf270hua and looking to move on from my Vega64 soon

Just wondering if Nvidia is an option for me.

Talk to people who own that specific monitor. I had a monitor that wasn't listed as compatible, but it worked just fine as long as the game was switched to "full screen window" mode. So really it comes down to the monitor itself and the only people who will know are the owners.

Someone on here says it works like a charm, without issue (click on View Entire Discussion, to read the rest of the comments).

Ive got the BenQ EX3501R which is Freesync, and it works fine, even though its not on the compatible list.

Yeah I have a Gigabyte G27Q monitor which is Freesync, however I have tested using nvidia settings and although it says the monitor isnt validated for G-Sync, it lets me tick both options (upper and lower) to enable G-Sync and it definately works.

I heard someone say before that basically Freesync is pretty much 100% compatible with G-Sync but no the other way around - I have not verified that through my own research though, just what I heard.

Isn’t that because full screen windowed turns g-sync off though? I’ve seen this mentioned elsewhere.

I’ve been looking at this myself as I’m about to take delivery of a new rig with RTX 3080 and the monitor choice is a minefield.

The vast majority of threads I’ve read here and on Reddit tend towards G-Sync working but issues with flicker in menus and when at the limits of the frequency range. Outside of the g-sync certified monitor list I think it’s a risk and even if an owner of a particular monitor tells you it’s fine then it’s no guarantee you’ll have the same experience.

Nvidia does the work to check compatibility for a reason, if the monitor you are looking at isn’t at least G-Sync compatible on the list then I’d say buyer beware.

NVIDIA has the option "Fullscreen" or "Fullscreen and Windowed". Most games have the option too. But for my monitor "Fullscreen" on both NVIDIA and the game it was glitchy and weird! Only if I set Windowed in both the game and the NVIDIA settings did it work correctly ( borderless fullscreen window classes as "windowed".). I guess that was why it wasn't deemed compatible - if they even tested it. But yes you are right, no "compatible" then no guarantee anything will work.

My ew3270u is fine and isn't on the compatible list. The only freesync monitor I had a problem with was a Samsung ultra wide, and that was fixed by editing the freesync range slightly in CRU.
