Morning all,

TL;DR
What are your G-Sync/V-Sync options set to?

Longer version

After recently purchasing a Dell S2716DG G-Sync monitor I wondered how to tell whether G-Sync is actually working, and what V-Sync options I should use.

In the Nvidia Control Centre (NVCP) I have enabled G-Sync and the monitor menu mentions G-Sync at the bottom when I click the buttons, however I get no indication when playing that G-Sync is on, is there such an indication (other then game play)?

Also, do I enable V-Sync alongside G-Sync and do I enable it in the NVCP and in-game, or in one but not the other. Views on the web seem mixed, I'd like to know what you do.

I mention all this as because in Metro LL Redux I was hitting +200FPS with Nvidia recommended settings and the graphics were not great. I then capped the FPS with RTSS at 130 and it was much better but I wouldn't say buttery smooth. V-Sync didn't seem to limit the frames, hence using RTSS, anything I should check to limit in future without using RTSS?

Thanks for reading.

Anthony

I've pulled my questions out for easy answering:

What are your G-Sync/V-Sync options set to? (In-game & NVCP)

Is there such an indication to show G-Sync is operational (other then game play)?

Anything I can do to limit in future to limit FPS without using RTSS?

In Game: Vsync OFF
In NVCP: Gsync Enabled, Vsync ON

Vsync on in NVCP will limit the framerate, however if the game has a frame rate limiter built in I tend to set that just below the monitor's refresh so say 140

Thanks.

I have a driver update to go so I will reset all to default before and then update to these settings. I'll report back on improvements etc.

I did change V-Sync (enabled it) in the NVCP and re-ran Metro without a restart and it didn't seem to help, perhaps I need to research the reason it didn't work. Unless anybody has any thoughts on this?

Anthony.

Edit: I guess I should mention I was using Steams inbuilt FPS counter to monitor frame rates.

Try turning that one off and use the inbuilt game one instead;

1) Go to ".../SteamLibrary/SteamApps/common/Metro Last Light"
2) There should be a single folder in there, go in there
3) You will see another user.cfg, open it with a text editor
4) search for "fps" and write "on" after a white space next to it and save
5) relaunch the game.

Thanks, I will certainly try this as it's only Metro LL that seems to run away with FPS. I will also apply the other settings you mentioned.

Anthony.

Thought I'd update this thread:

After updating and sorting out my settings as shown by andybird and Metro has sorted itself out and is limited to 144fps and below. The monitor on screen menu changes between G-Sync mode and normal mode, so I now know when it's enabled.

Thanks.

Anthony
