Could anyone with a gigabyte 970 g1 measure how far the top of the backplate is off the top of the PCB?

Want to know if I could squeeze it in under my noctua.

Looks like about 2 mm the backplate has a small 2mm return folded on its edge

Think it would just fit but like you say it would be touching.

Could a single card be put into the 2nd pcie x16 slot?

As far as I know it can, try it with your existing card

Will do. Wasn't sure if I'd need to faff around with drivers or the BIOS.
