I just bought some new hardware, a 4670k and G1.Sniper M5 but the motherboard doesn't detect my graphics card (ATI 5970). To check if the problem was with the motherboard i fitted another graphics card, a Nvidia 7900GS. It was detected by the motherboard. I thought maybe i had damaged the 5970 somehow when transferring it, so i tried plugging it back into my old motherboard (core i5 750 + Gigabyte GA P55M UD2) and it was detected.

I have googled the problem but i can't find anyone having a similar issue.

Anyone have any ideas why there seems to be a problem with the new board not detecting the the graphics card?

Is the BIOS on the M5 up to date?

Does the 5970 have a dual BIOS switch on the side? Flick it over.

Its not that, Im thinking of a different ATi product that is known to have issues with Z87 when this switch (found on the side of the card) is in the wrong position.

all you can do is email gigabyte uk and tell them the issue, they can test or send you custom bios to try

I've contacted gigabyte and they've tested an ati 5970 (not a his 5970) with the board and it works. They've suggested i check for a newer bios. So, i contacted HIS about 5 working days ago and they still haven't responded.
I'll post any more info when i get it incase anyone encounters a similar problem.

Having given up on HIS tech support i've found a guide on bit tech for flashing the 5970's bios.

I'm at the point of trying to find out which gpu is slave+master using the atiflash -i command. I only get one adapter listed.

I used the command atiflash -ai 1 and it says the adapter is not found.

I have never attempted a bios flash on this card, and only moderately overclocked it from 5850 to 5870 speeds.

Anyone have any idea as to why the second adapter isn't being listed?
