All 18 of them  seems a bit odd, assume there were originally 14 and more joined

Anyway a few questions

How are the members decided , money , record , influence ?

and what do folks think , is this good for the game or just to ensure that these clubs get things their own way ?

Are these the worthy clubs or should some not be included and others included (that are not at present) ?

For info , the members are

Ajax
Dortmund
Bayern
Barcelona
Inter
Juventus
Liverpool
Man Utd
AC Milan
Marseille
PSG
Porto
PSV
Real Madrid
Arsenal
Leverkusen
Lyon
Valencia

with the last 4 , I think being the newer members

I think its

A: Bad for the game
B: I dont think any from arsenal Leverkusen or Lyon should have been included

no offence to the many arsenal fans but I dont think you have been consistently good enough in Europe and the PL for long enough to be classed with the others.

Liverpool I would have also put in this catergory had it not been for the distinguished history and the 5 trophy haul a few seasons ago.

what are liverpool doing in there ;)

i think they are chosen equally from each country coz teams like Porto, PSG, Marseille and Lyon are simply not as good as the others

probably like the seedings from the champions league Jazz some countries have one some have 2, 3 etc so if yer country is deemed worthy for a CL place without qualifying (ie Scotland I think) then you get a team in G14.

The ones I was more suprised about were PSV and the French clubs , french domestic fottball is very poor (digs big hole prior to playing Auxerre  ) , Arsenal deserve their place IMO

just trying to get on our nerves today arent u ;)

why shouldnt we be, we narrowly missed out on quarters last yr, got to quarters the yr before and were knocked out on the away goal rule. got to the uefa cup final and lost on penalties. We have won 4 english trophies in 4 years, are currently the best in england unless someone proves otherwise, we have given some good euro teams a match and half this yr.

Man utd have done better in the past, but look at the teams u have had to beat in recent yrs hardly strong teams heh

I suppose it means that teams that have been good in Europe recently meaning that you gain membership automatically? So if Leeds do well in Europe next season, they'll be asked to join? Cos they're certainly better then Lyon, Dortmund, Leverkusen and PSG, along with a couple of others!

I meant as in x amount from each country rotty mate if you know what i mean cos to be honest the G14 could be made solely out of teams from spain germany and italy

but i think there are a certain number of places dedicated to certain countries regardless of ho the teams are perfoming overall.

i think this thread and wenger thread should be joined together, very similar stuff, is there a don in the house :D

Ajax
Dortmund
Bayern
Barcelona
Inter
Juventus
Man Utd
AC Milan
Real Madrid
Arsenal
Valencia
Deportivo

I hope no one is offended but that should be the clubs

Just looked on their website and it says that members are "invited" by the others , there is no automatic right of membership , all sounds like the Masons to me

I'd rather it wasn't , I would like to see this debated on its own merits and hopefully without degenerating into a "my teams better than yours " thread

Ok I was going to partially agree with you until this.

I mean why is it you arsenal supporters bang on about us not facing tough opposition ? It is as they say by luck of the draw
and as we are normally in the top seeds we do tend to get into a decent group in Europe but the reason for this is simple we earned our first seed slot. I'm not sure if Arsenal are considered First seeds yet or not ? but it is luck of the drawer and anyway when it gets to the quarters and semis the group draws dont matter at all.

If the fact that you think the groups we have been drawn in are easy then thats youre perogative but every team in the CL have earned there chance from being the best in there respective leagues. Arsenal in my view have done particularly well in this years CL and should get to at least the semis the same as Man Utd and we will both have earned our place there regardless of the oppostion we have faced.

this yr iirc we were 5th or 6th out of the teams

indeed u have earned ur draw but we have had tough draws in the past and man utd fans will always say hey we got to the semi finals and u didnt, without looking at the teams we have faced thats why we bring it up

ok fair enough :p :D

I've found me dummy now anyway I spat it out when i read yer last post in this thread you see so now I've all calmed down agin :p :D

I was always under the impression that the G14 (or however many) were just a group of the 'big' clubs of europe. It's got a lot more to do with how much influence the clubs carry rather than recent success on the pitch so you tend to end up with the top 2 or three clubs from the major footballing nations of europe plus any of note from some of the smaller nations.

From the look of it's current composition it seems that the 4 new clubs were added for political reasons to give each of the 5 major nations 3 members in line with what Italy already had although I'd argue that Leverkusen and Lyon don't really deserve to be there.

Sounds a reasonable reason for the increase in numbers, Lyon is a really amazing choice to be a member , I work in Lyon a lot and locals couldn't care less for football , they are all Rugby fans in the southern parts of France
