g20 trouble

watching this and having my sandwiches ! om nom nom

they were showing, like CCTV of a street near a bank, and everytime the crowd came forward the police would hit them, several people bleeding. Couldn't understand why the police were just hitting them, they're not being physically violent towards anyone, i presume the sheer number of people behind them are forcing people forward.

I want to see a proper riot :(
 
BBC is now saying that the plod has penned everyone into the square and is claiming they have been ordered to keep everyone there.

So what happened to being able to protest peacefully without harassment from the plod? Brown is slowly taking us nearer and nearer to a Stalin like regime :mad:

Learn the real reason for the current crisis. The banks were just one part of that. Even then you're better blaming securitization.

Regulation was there but banks could get around it by packaging their loans and selling them off. The problem was the rating agencies were rating them AA, no one knew what was inside the packages and banks started buying other banks packages.

The problem is that everything ends up so polarised.

On the one hand we have a bunch of uppity self-righteous, self-involved people who would advocate laissez faire capitalism no matter what the cost, who hold material wealth as the highest goal, with no regard for anyone less fortunate than themselves.

They then consider anyone who disagrees with their ideals as being an unwashed, uneducated, illiterate, jobless, communist idiot who just wants to riot, without any actual idea of what they want or how to achieve it besides causing a fuss.

So we have two straw men fighting things out, while the more liberal folk in the middle struggle to be heard over the clamouring morons moaning about their distorted view of the other side.

I'm well aware not everyone in the city works in the Financial sector.
 
to behonest protestors here get a pretty smooth ride compared to every one of the other countries in the g20

we must be the only major nation that doesnt use water cannon but you see it regularly used on the continent..I also think compared to other european police forces our officers are a lot more restrained than say italy or germany

and then you take somewhere like argentina, where you would get a right hiding!

I will happily watch a riot as I wanna see some tax dodger plonker who wants a fight get his/her arse kicked! :D

Also wondering why extremists havent used it as an excuse to blow some people up!?

You really wouldn't. It was actually quite embarrassing. The reporter kept trying to find an actual reason for him being there. But he just couldn't give one. It appeared that he was there for the same reason 90% of the people are probably there. A poor grasp of the facts of the current situation, coupled with an under-lying hatred of the establishment and an unhealthy appetite to jump on any bandwagon.

No I'm not, England is the only country where we don't have riots when things go wrong. We have protests, that achieve nothing, if these people want to make a difference and to change things they won't achieve it with protests.

I disagree, I'd say the "plod" like to know whats happening, they like to have things under controll, and getting all these people to stop, turn around isn't going to work by asking them. The police take a heavy handed approach to this, so kinda asking for a reaction, and it will be the protestors who are in the wrong according to them.

So much for being able to protest where you want ?

Only if it's safe to do so.

Come on it was stated on the news for a week they expect militants to descend on the capital and expect riots. If you are a serious peaceful protester you would stay well away from this protest yet they still go and compain when it kicks off.

The police have warned people for around 5 days now even reporters showed some of the internet guff that's floating around promoting a riot.

I can't see how you misssed all of it Tummy. I saw it and I'm not even in the UK.
 
Idiots. All they are doing is goading the Police to get a reaction. Then when they get that reaction, they will blame the Police. Pfft. Scruffy hippies can never have a peaceful protest. Nevermind. The Police will batter them all day.
 
If the police are really "that" worried, why don't they use gas / riot gear / rubber bullets to get the protestors to leave ?

better then just standing in a line with their sticks, and besides means I can have some popcorn.
