g20 trouble

lol one of the protestors did actually give a good argument went something like:

"We're concerned enough to feel like we need to be here make sure a message is given to people that know but dont think this economic struggle doesnt apply to them, to the people attending the G20 who are probably comfortable in their hotel rooms flicking over the channels who cant wait to get this meeting over and done with and make the same un-important decisions that wont make a difference. We want them to actually take note that this is the results from those decisions made directly or indirectly."

the reporter then asked him if he thought they are listening to what your saying:

"Nope, they dont care, why should they? they got no concern with our country, not even the ones that represent this country care. They got their power from us, they are just going to use the power the way they want - and look whats happened. I and everyone else are below them, I even assume we aren't even respected, the minority who are causing problems for the police are making us the ones that want to just voice an opinion look bad, I mean your standing here with a camera crew, I dont even have to raise my voice to talk and its all calm. Not quite a riot is it."

Good stuff. Pointless asking for specific things at a protest like this, just need to make it clear to the G20 delegates that people are unhappy with the way things were run and the natural result of anglo-saxon free market economies.

Reform of government. Get rid of the current glut of career politicians who are hell bent on peeing money up the wall on ever poorer public services, chipping away at our civil rights, costing us a fortune in salaries, going against public will on important decisions, etc etc. Replace them with a more modest government of people who actually represent the populous.

While Von I might not have had paid any attention to the "hype" surrounding the protests today, you and me share the same idea's being having a revolution, and what we want a government to do over this situation.

I'm still stumped as to you calling me an idiot for asking for the revolution in a post ? I was in a fairly happy mood, watching the protests, and i couldn't figure out what a quiet protest was going to achieve, nothing. The government havn't listened before and won't listen this time. However a riot would have made them take in what public opinion was, that they're doing more wrong then right.

Riots are counterproductive because they give the impression that the rioters prefer violence to dialogue.

If the NI peace talks had been conducted by both sides throwing bricks at each other in a closed room, how much do you think they would have achieved by now?

violence solves nothing.

all it shows is anger and frustration - no answer is given. For a result you need to sit and discuss and this takes time. They have more than the economy to talk about.

This isnt naruto where the hokagei sits on her fat ass sending ninja to do her dirty work. This is the real world where bad decisions that we have witnessed need the right counter decisions to stop things from going bad to worse.

And a revolution would only side track the problem and create a new one. Look at Iran/Iraq/ Any country that had a revolution and look how long it took them just to get them back to square one. A revolution is just a reset button. A ghost wipe of everything the country has worked to improve gone.

All this government needs to do is stop thinking about themselves and the rich/famous/z class and start thinking of the majority.

Right im just back from doing some amatuer photo journalism at the protest outside bank of england.

Basically, I sympathise with the police totally. There were a fair few troublemakers who were high and only wanted to fight. Infact the actualy number of protestors were tiny, Most people there were onlookers, journalists, etc. There was no real organisation either. It was a farce tbh. The police cordoned off a large area so people were stuck and then things got a bit nasty tbh.

Poor protest but a great photo-ing experience.

From looking at the footage on TV there appears to be more members of the press and people taking photos than protestors.
The bloke in the green t-shirt breaking the window is mobbed by about a million journalists taking pictures of him. I'm surprised he had enough room around him to swing that thing he used to break the glass.

Violence does not prove who is right ;) but who is left.

Violence does work, but in this case a bit of good old fashion rioting would have bought far more attention to this, protests achieve nothing.

I'm starting a revolution from my bed :)

This government have showed that they're not really bothered about the majority, they should leave.
Brown doesn't want to call an election because he would lose.
He is instead trying to dig his way out of this already big hole.

We need something, anything to get this country back on track, and my friend the current government will not do that.

I was there.

It was good, except the Police impounded the whole area and no one could get in or out for three hours. Unlawfully restricting our freedom of movement.

There were also moments with some exceptional heavy handedness where some people got some nasty batterings, which was totally out of order.

So was the smashing of buildings and protesters attacking the Police with large wooden poles out of order. By surrounding the RBS building you unlawfully restricted the movement of the workers in side who were doing a days work, not smacking the crap of a building...I don't call that a protest.

It wasn't tbh,

It was just a few troublemakers being mobbed by people with cameras.

It was good, except the Police impounded the whole area because everyone knew there was gonna be an attempt to make a riot and no one could get in or out for three hours despite being told 5 days prior. lawfully restricting our freedom of movement.

There were also moments with some exceptional heavy handedness where some people got some nasty batterings especially when they were provoking the police, which was totally in order.

fixed.

warned 5 days earlier yet, still went to protest. and they say ignorance is bliss ;)
