Does anyone know if the stock g260 coolers are any good? I've been reading a lot about the new ati cards coming with woeful stock cooling and was wondering if nvidias was as poor.

I find the stock coolers on the 4870 series cards very good. By that I mean it is very good at cooling the card. It just out of the factory the fan is set too low in the bios of the card so it idles at high temps. So people see 75-80C idle temps and they are horrified. But this can be easily corrected by editing *** file where CCC stores the fan setting. Obviously this leads to an increase in fan noise.

The nvidia 200 series cooler I find is not efficient as the 4870 one. THe nvidias drop the core speeds and mem settings when it idles so it is using very little power. This in turn leads to low idle temps. But when under full load the card is going to hit to like 80+c under load and that's the fan set at 100%.

Stick the 4870 fan on 100% and the load temps are lower than the 200 series. But then I found it much louder than the nvidia fans at 100%. It doesn't say what card you are upgrading from but I find the 200 series cooler slightly louder than my old GTX at 100%. I use to love sticking the 4870 fan on 100% as I thought it sounded nearly twice as loud as the 200 series fans. It is so insane it brill.

I hope that helps.
