G27 Good or Bad

Have been looking for a wheel setup for playing Assetto Corsa and Project Cars when it comes out.

Nearly all forums seem to recommend going with the T500. Appreciate that at the moment the T500 is double the price. But is it really worth spending that kind of money?

Is it just aT500 fan-boy thing that the G27 is a poor wheel and more like a toy as many say. Would a novice to 'racing-sim-games' really notice the difference.

Getting a wheel at end of the month and can afford the T500, but If I can get a new G27 for half the price is it a better deal?

Had a shot of a friend system using a TX Ferrari wheel and had a blast. Only ever played games like COD and the latest racing games have kind of shocked me on how good they are.

I love mine, only mod I have done is upgrade the pedal springs.

Went from a 360 Microsoft wireless wheel to a DFGT to my beloved G27.

All mounted on a wheel stand pro.
 
The G27 is the best bang-for-buck wheel available. The T500 has better FFB, but not £175 worth of better. You'll definitely want to do the spring mod on the pedals if you're going to be using heel n' toe.

Also the G27 comes with an H pattern shifter, which is a separate unit for the T500.

I am in the same situation like you. Assetto Corsa is the sim that maybe bring me back from simracing retirement. Yes, T500 is double the price, but after some research, it seems T500 RS is in different league. Some say, next better thing you can buy is FREX worth £2000. So you see, unfortunately, the increase in quality is not linear with increase in the price.

By any means G27 is not a poor wheel. Only a true kid fan-boy would said so. Lots of people coming from G27 to T500 and they still say G27 is still great wheel, they just recognize the improvement. At £169 G27 is a bargain.

Since you are starting simracing I would get G27. You will see if you really like it in longer run, if you have enough time for this to justify the expenses.
I am around bit longer;-) started with Microprose Grand Prix, Papyrus Nascar & Indycar racing, and finally the king, GPL. Today I will try RC1.04 of Assetto Corsa with my Logitech Driving Force Pro and see if this is the next big thing. If it is, I'm getting T500 with wheel stand pro, because at the moment fortunately I can afford it. I'm not fooling myself, being grown adult with family, I don't have the time I wished I had for games any more. But you have to have some fun in life;)

Yes, apart from codemasters crap and need for speeds, there are some brilliant simracing. Check out iRacing and Rfactor2 as well.

After a lot of reading and you tube watching, the rattle on feedback issue with the G27 puts me off it. Was going to get the G27 and upgrade to a GTX970 at same time. Total of £410ish smackers.

Most likely going to get the T500 and put card on hold as I have a 280X that is coping ok at the moment on my 27" IPS and will likely upgrade next month.

Was also looking at the T300 GTE, but the pedals look shocking and no clutch. Shame the unit doesn't come with the T500 versions. Trying to avoid having to buy another set of pedals for a while.

Playing Assetto with keyboard, LoL at moment and love it.

I tried it for about 2 hours only and I loved it. Every part of it, feel, looks, sound. My Driving Force Pro is a decent wheel but I really think this sim justifies buying better wheel and especially pedals. So today I ordered TS500 and wheel stand pro. Probably you researched topic of TS500 thoroughly;) but within few days I will give you some initial feedback on the wheel and stand.
 
My G27 was absolutely superb. Not sure what the "rattle" comment was about but I didn't notice anything that sounded out of place whilst using it.

I only sold it as it was taking my whole desk up and it was a hassle getting it out and setting it up every other evening I wanted to play F1. Seemed silly to not sell it at the time.
 
Steve, did it never make a rattling noise when you hit the tracks rumble strip or go off track. People say the gears make a clicking or clacking noise.

Where wheels like the Thrustmaster uses belts so you do not get that type of noise.
