Hi,

Posting this question for a friend but I have been so far unable to help.. so this is where you lot come in.

My mate as a new build that has the following:

Z97 Asus AR Motherboard
G3258 anniv. Intel GPU
Sapphire 280x
Noctua CPU cooler

Now, he has had a lot of trouble with battlefield 4, it crashes when he gets into a game and down right refuses to let him join any 64 player games. Task manager shows 100% CPU usage and battlefield goes white screen, doesn't get into games. He managed to get into game a few times, but it crashes soon after.

We've tried reinstalling windows, battlefield, checking all drivers, reinstalling drivers etc. We thought it could be the low pre-overclock speed of the G3258, so he used ASUS overclocking software and got it to 4.4ghz, still no help. We then tried a manual overclock but could still only manage 4.4ghz which didn't make any difference.

Ive seen videos of BF4 and a G3258 getting 60+ FPS, but my friend cant even get in ...

Is this anything hardware related at all? Or should battlefield 4 be working?

Thanks for any help,

Grady

BF4 single player campaign fighting a few enemies at a time and BF4 online multiplayer with 64 players trying to kill each other on the server are two completely different animals when it comes to the stress/load being placed on the CPU.

See if you friend can managed to use Mantle instead of dx11 on BF4, and it should helps hugely on reducing the CPU bottleneck.

May sound odd but check he doesn't have teamviewer running... I had a similar experience and stopping g teamviewer fixed it

What resolution are you playing at?
How much RAM do you have?

He has tried it at 1920 and at 800x600. Same story.

8GB of ram, that black team extreme stuff along with a samsung 850 Evo.

Seems to be the same story for multiplayer and single player. He has mantle on and that didn't seem to help.

I've got him coming to my place in a few weeks and I will try his G3258 in my PC to try and just rule out that his Motherboard might be damaged or something.

Totally unrelated I am sure, but he was unable to install windows until he removed his Network PCI card (blue screens, freezes etc).

BF4 and BF3 will rinse a G3258, been there tried that!

However it should not stop you from gaming full stop, there is a software issue somewhere.

I've also personally had a G3258, agreed I got it to 4.7 Ghz, but that monster'd through BF4.

Is this more than likely software related do we think? No chance that something in his Pc is damaged that is causing this? Is it worth trying another Frostbite 3 engined game?
