G3258 on H81

Finally got to test mine, after finding my Asrock H81 was kaput. Picked up an MSI H81-E33. Got it running no problem at 4.2ghz @1.20v running around 55c under load on a Akasa Venom Nano HSF, can't seem to get any higher tho. Don't know if it's the motherboard or the chip, but still it's a fast little system for next to no dough. Will have another play at the weekend.

It sure is...I decided saving a hundred pounds over an i5 was worth it, so I've paired it with an Asus Z97-K motherboard and with no effort have achieved 4.5Ghz. I've not tried to push it further yet.

It's running at 65 degrees though with a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler...I'd have expected lower temps, doesn't seem to be any different from the stock cooler!

Tell you what...I've also been pleasantly surprised by the supposedly poor on-board graphics. It runs Hearthstone and Alpha Protocol quite happily at 1680 x 1050 which is far more than I expected.

Hey, can I play? I've just purchased a G3258 and an Asus H81i-PLUS mobo. Flashed the 2001 BIOS and have managed a mild overclock of 3.6Ghz using stock volts. I am using a Hyper 212 Evo cooler and it topped out at 50deg. using Intel Burn Test (idle 30deg.) Going to see how far I can push it on stock volts before upping the voltage. What is strange though is that I can't get my memory to run@1600Mhz - it's decided that 1400Mhz is where it's at...why is that?!

what are people using for stress testing these days? i'm aware of a few tools like prime, intel burn test and OCCT but i was wondering what you guys would recommend? i'm not looking for mega overclocks as i have a gigabyte board which is limited to 1.2v. if i get 4-4.2 i'll be happy enough. :p

edit: i've just realised i haven't overclocked anything in about 4 years. my last dabble was with a q6600. :o
