I know this forum gets overrun with mac hardware questions when it isnt really for macs but it seems this is where the knowledge is ^_^
Got a G4 the other day, specs:
Dual 1.25ghz
1.25gb ram
80gb hdd

Now it runs fine, although slower than my P4 805D + 1gb ram for photoshop and similar programs.
Is this down to the mac being older it will run slower even with 2gb ram in it?
I stuck another 512mb stick in from another pc at home, so it is currently 1.75gb ram but it doesn't seem to have had any noticeable change.
Does it matter if it has 2x512mb corsair and 2x512mb other brand?
As i thought unlike pcs it wouldn't matter.
Also, is it better to run 2x1gb sticks or 4x512mb, the max ram the G4 can handle is 2GB going by websites so that is what i am aiming for, just need to know if the 1gb sticks or 512mb sticks are going to speed it up at all :)
Thanks!

Hi

i use to have one of those, recently sold it on, i found once i'd purchased a sonnet sata card and put a sata drive in it, it was considerably quicker :)

probably not the answer you wanted.

well i do have a sata card lying around upstairs i think, and my other pc is full of sata drives.
Might try it to see if that helps :)

ps. do any cards work or only certain ones ? :)

errr not sure, i know the sonnet kit was designed specifically for macs :)

Drivers would probably be the main issue i would imagine.

thats about right for the two port card, it is steep but on the other hand drivers are builtin and you can boot of the card aswell, from memory i think it had a sil chipset on it think it was 3112
