I got a G500 in 2011, just after I got it the braiding started coming undone which lead to the cord being pinched, the plastic broke and the bare wire was exposed. Now the mouse keeps disconnecting, I have to move the mouse around or pull the cord in order to get it to reconnect. It does seem to happen more if I move the mouse or pick it up.

I am not sure if this is the mouse itself, the issues with the cord or the OS. Although the OS does seem unlikely, although it has happened that the disconnecting\reconnecting has happened constantly which has then caused the keyboard to lock up, although I am thinking that is effect not the cause.

It is worth noting that I got the mouse for OCuk, and did create a few threads about the braiding, but never got many responses, so I just lived with it.

I had a G500 and the braiding wan't great although if you have a mouse mat that's properly stitched at the sides then its a lot better. Anyway mine didn't fall apart but it was obviously a weak point. I recently filled mine with wine and that did kill it so I replaced it with a G502 which is a significant upgrade and the wire is far higher quality.

If you don't wanna pay then get yourself some heatshrink and wire (maybe 26AWG) and use a soldering iron to replace it on the board. You can even buy usb connectors you can solder onto on ebay.

I could take it apart and solder a new cord on, but I am unsure if it is the cord. And I might just make things worse.

Have you contacted logitech about a possible rma?

My old G500 died in a similar fashion , was out of warranty too but they sill replaced it, maybe worth a shot.

Same here. Didn't ask for my g500 back either. I've heard stories of them asking people to send a photo of the mouse destroyed lol
