Thought I'd have a go at seeing if the 4th core on my Dads athlon 2 x3 450 would unlock. Set ACC to auto and EC firmware to hybrid and the 4th core appears. Haven't done any real stability testing yet, but it booted into windows and it was fine for the short time I was using it, but I've put it back to normal for now due to an odd problem.

When it's set to auto and hybrid mode, the first start up stops at memory check. It gets to the check, says memory ok, then just stops. Reset and it will post fine and go into windows. 100% reproducible. First post will stop after memory check, second try will always work. After memory check, it's suppose to move onto detecting drives.

Not too sure what to make of it, as I've never tried a core unlock before. Some sort of Bios bug? Not quite stable and needs a bit of extra voltage? Would have thought if that was the case it would act similar to an overclock and either not post or random bsod, but then never tried an unlock before.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Seemed to be a bios bug. Found updated bios for it and no problem now. Shows up as a phenom ii B50 when unlocked though. Not sure why, would have thought it would just change from a athlon 2 x3, to x4. Not an issue, just found it odd :).

Quick bump for a strange problem. After running it with the updated bios, I've noticed a strange issue that is only present with the core unlock running.

Sometimes the post will go really slow for some reason. I get the single beep to say everything is fine. Post screen goes to the memory check, then seems like it has froze, when really it's just going slow.Leave it for 20-30 seconds and it will continue on, although slower than normal. Soon as it leaves the bios screens and gets to windows, everything is normal speed again :). I'm guessing it's some kind of bios bug? As 9/10 it will post fine and one time it will be slow. F8 bios which was in use before, would lock up like described in first post (although possible it was also going slow, never really left it long enough), F10 bios, much improvement, but still occasionally does it.

Core itself is fine and has happily primed for over 12hours without issue and like I said, it's only the post screen/bios having this odd glitch.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? As it's quite odd, if not I'll take it to the gigabyte forums, see if anyone there has run into same issue and fixed it.
