I have one PCIe x 16 slot for a graphics card.

I'm wanting to have budget "CAD workstation".

I'm thinking that perhaps what you would do is go to the appropriate web-pages, and look at supported graphics cards of a good CAD program - like say SolidWorks or AutoCad. Even if you were as yet not able to afford these programs.

From the list, you would simply get the best card that you can afford.

Is that about right process?

I was thinking of spending say £50 on a graphics card. Don't know what the implications of that would be. TIA.

Oh, this process would only work if I could see a simple list of approved cards. You cannot see any such list at SolidWorks site, all you can do is see if your card is okay.

I think the idea that you get a card to cover being okay with SolidWorks or Autocador similaris probably pretty sound.

Might be best for me to visit SolidWorks or whatever group.
