GA-EP45-DS3 + Q6600 = multiple restarts when OCing

Hi there,

I have a bit of a strange issue with my EP45-DS3 + Q6600 combo. When I try clocking the Quad to 3GHz (9 x 333) the system will reboot, then reboot again a number of times and then finally reboot with the default settings for 2.4GHz.

I have had the system boot to 3GHZ a few times and go into windows but after I restart it again it returns to 2.4ghz via it's silly reboot process.

The full spec is:

EP45-DS3
Q6600 (95w version) / G0 Stepping
OCZ StealthStream 600W PSU
8GB (4 x 2) Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400C5
Artic cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Sapphire HD 4870 1GB
Western Digitial 640GB Black
Pioneer DVR-216DBK

Idle temp is: 45 44 43 42 (core temp)
Vid is: 1.2750v

Can someone please explain why the system reboots and then defaults back to 2.4ghz?

Unstable overclock, you might need to increase the Vcore and the MCH voltage as your using all memory slots.

Ok thanks for that, I'll have a play about and see what I can sort out. What's a safe vcore for a 1.2750 vid Q6600 G0?

Shouldnt need more than 1.3250v for 3ghz.

You're safe up until 1.4750-1.50v, providing temps are ok. (although you shouldnt need to venture that higher unless you are going for 3.6-3.8ghz)
