Hi all,
I just built a new pc, as listed below. However whenever i try and run it in dual/tripple channel memory cofigurations it becomes unstables (fails memtest) in tripple channel it fails quicker than dual channel, but all the mem sticks are ok indervidualy.

The mobo picked up a much slower than supported speed on the ram, but it is unstable at both this and the faster maximum speed of the ram.

I have tried two sets of ram and it happens on both.

Does any one have any ideas what is could be? I am starting to think its the mobo but wondered what other people think.

Thanks.

You have to manually set the frequency and timings of your RAM yourself, the mobo will run them at 1066MHz by default.

It's probably due to the BIOS using the wrong timings for your memory that is causing it to fail memtest.

Just enter the timings, and set the mem multi manually, and then test again to see if the problem persists..

Oh, and remember to also set the VDimm to 1.65v as well..

You might also need to bump up QPI/Vtt at the same time to get the system stable.

there is no 1.65v in the VDimm setting.
Also why do you now have to set memory settings by hand, didn't this all use to be automatic?

On the UD5 you need to set the Voltage to 1.64v, the motherboard's don't always detect the settings, virtually all motherboards I have had I needed to manually setup the ram.

I had a similar problem with my board, I had 2 sets of faulty ram (OCZ) I ended up sending the board and cpu back for Ocuk to test but thses come back ok, bought a different set of ram, Patriot Viper and these worked fine and still working :)

I set the timings to 9-9-9-24 and the voltage to 1.64v and it was still unstable, are there any other timings that could be wrong?

Do the sticks still fail memtest at these stock settings?

Also doesn't the ud5 have 6 slots. I now this sounds obvious but when you have three stics in are they all in the same colour slots and the right colour for when you use three (assuming you need to use one set of slots as opposed to the other when only using 3, maybe you don't - check the manual).

Yep, there in the correct slots, don't put them in the blue slots as the system wont boot, made that mistake when building mine.

I would say you have a faulty set, my 2nd set of OCZ would pass mem test but fail when running any stability testing in triple channel mode, dual or single fine.
