Morning all,

I picked up an old system for my mother-in-law so she can 'check emails and word process' etc. You know the score.

The problem is that the system doesn't boot.

It's a gigabyte GA-K8VNXP with a gig of crucial ram, a GeForce 4 and not much else to remark on.

For a couple of weeks the machine would turn on, spin up the drives but not boot / post. Nor did it beep. Then suddenly last night it started to beep.

It does 1 long beep. Long pause. Then 1 short, 1 long. Long pause then just loops doing 1 long + pause. I can't find what this means.

No and then it will stop doing this and just do long beeps in a loop.

I've found that if I remove the Ram from the system then it will just do long beeps all day long. I know this suggests the ram is knackered but I've swapped it out for other stuff with no luck. Also tried putting just 1 stick in all the slots individually. No luck.

Any suggestions on what I can try next? (Apart from scrap it?) :)

Thanks.

Cheers Peeps, especially Deuce. I've already tried it with other Ram, and BIOS resetting.

Starting to think the motherboard is ka-put.

Cheers.
