I've got a Phenom 9600 and Gigabyte ga-ma790fx-dq6 which will not post :(

When I first got them, the board would not post - no error beeps where given by the board. I RMA'd the board and now have it back.

I *still* cant get the system to POST, but, I am now getting error codes. I've gotten various code beeps (depending on what I've been trying) but I consistently get "3 short & 1 long" in a continous loop (with a pause in between sets).

The manual doesnt mention this combination and I'm tearing my hair out with this! :(

Has anyone had similar problems and managed to fix it?

Just managed to get the system to POST. I think its a memory issue. I am using 4x1GB Crucial Ballistic, PC2-6400 CL4.

I had tried using only 1 dimm without success but eventually got the system running by using slots 2&4 (so only 2gb in use at the moment).

At the moment trying to convince XP to do a repair (as my other half doesnt want to lose her game installs, for those that know, the sims 2 plus *all* expansions which would take an age to re-install, never mind the fact its taken me all night to get the *&%$ thing booting lol).

Anyway, once the system is running, I'm hoping there is a bios update i can flash to fix the memory problem?

is the memory at the correct voltage?

I didnt change anything in the bios. The board was new and i wasn't able to get to the bios until my last post. So all voltages and timings are at the factory defaults just now.

The board would not post with a single dimm in slot 1. So after a bit of trial and error (ie noticing that the error beeps varied depending on the memory slots being used) I managed to boot using lots 2&4.

I've never come across such a weird problem before
