GA-MA790XT-UD4P and RAM

I have one of these in my main desktop. Its currently got 2x4GB sticks of ram in it in slots 3 & 4 but I've just upgraded my two ESX "servers" to 32GB each. Consequently I have oodles of spare ram.

The problem is the Arctic Cooler is just a couple of mm too big to allow me to get a stick of RAM in slot 1

Can anyone recommend a reasonable cooler which will allow me to fully populate this board?

Stock cooler unless you can turn the artic cooler 90 degrees.

Does your ram have heat sinks?

Yes and they're the quite big modern heat sinks rather than the modest ones we used to have in DDR2 days

I had similar problems with an Arctic Cooler and the slot 1 DDR3 clashing on a GA-MA785G about 5 years ago.
I took a hacksaw to the plastic fan housing to give enough clearance (which didn't really affect it at all).
It was only a couple of mm like you say, in one corner. Probably cut it back about 2mmx2mmx20mm.
The machine is still running fine.
