ive been trying my hardest to install xp on a raid0 array on this board

after i load the raid drivers during xp install it blue screens giving a harddrive error

ive given up and installed on a single hardrive and im typing this now from fresh install

is this a known problem could it be a dodgy board ?

i tryed disconnecting the harddrives and attempting the xp instillation and it got to the same point ie. after adding raid drives from floppy and blue screened with the same error, so it cant be the hdds themselves maybe the onboard raid controller is goosed

Are you using the latest drivers? And are you using the Intel or Gigabyte RAID controller?

i presume it was the intell one and i used ctrl-i to enter raid menu and create the array

tried drivers that came and also d/l off gigabyte site and tried them

well ive managed to install xp on the raid 0 array :)

turns out i was trying to use the gigabyte drivers on the intell controller :o

can anyone tell me why there is two different types of raid controller on 1 board seems like a waste to me

also can anyone say which is better intell or gigabyte raid controller

thanks

The Intel ICH9R one is better.

The JMicron controller is there primarily to run the IDE port (Intel dumped IDE from P965 onwards), but it has the added bonus of providing two extra SATA ports which can be RAIDed. It also provides the only RAID controller on boards that use the non-RAID Intel ICH9 chipset.

so me using the g sata controller is a mistake then ?

will i see less performance or raid stability in not using the intell controler ?

thanks in advance

Nah it's not a mistake. The JMicron controller is fine, it's just the Intel controller is a little bit better and would be the better option for a fresh install.

But it's certainly not worth reinstalling for.
