I'm attempting to get one of these 805Ds overclocked nicely, I did the standard 190fsb with the 20x default mulitplier, And I'm running a 2.66 divider. Which seems to have everything running nicely.

But the temperatures on the 805d are being silly, I've got speedfan on, And idling it's around 52c. And raises to 57c in the 1st 10 seconds of running everest.

I have a Arctic Freezer Pro Cooler on the processor, which I was under the impression was a great cooler, I know someone cooling an AMD dual core Opty using Arctic Freezer.

Anyways, I'll admit I didnt remove the thermal pad from the Arctic Freezer, Would replacing the stuff that came on it ready with arctic Silver 5 make much difference?

My system is in an Antec Sonata II case

Oh my problem is the high temperatures by the way! :p

I have just replaced the stock cooler with a Artic Freezer Cooler Pro and my temps are almost identical.

I have tried re-seating the cooler, cleaning the thermal paste and then re applying it. i have done this 3 times now.

Nothing I do seems to make a blind bit of differance to the temperatures.

Current idle temperature is upto 60'c but fluctuates by 5'c

I was being a dunce, And i've fixed it. Maybe this will help you.

I had the Arctic Cooler Fan, Literally a few cm away from the exhaust fan!!

So basically, there was no air for the smaller fan to use to cool the Heatsink. I've just turned the Cooler around, And now, the fan blows onto the Heatsink, And the exhaust helps remove hot air.

I hope thats clear lol. Simply put, I've turned the cooler around, And it now idles at around 38c, and tops out at what looks to be 45-46c while stressing with everest. :)

I don't have an exhaust fan. The fan on the cooler is on the side of the cooler that is furthest away from the back of the case if that makes sense.

Im 99.999% sure its just not seated correctly, I really don't like the pins that are on it to secure it to the motherboard either, Im never sure of they are in correctly.

Give it a day or two for the thrmak stuff to cure, it was the same with my C2D when i swapped from stock cooler to the freezer. At fordt, ahrdly and drop in temps, but now its a good 10 - 15 degrees lower :)

Might as well !!

The PC in question is just a Windows 2000 server in the corner so its not really doing anything to be honest.

Its quiet which is the main thing!

Hmm the temps haven't come done any at all in 24 hours, saying that they haven't gone up either.

Time to re seat the cooler me thinks!

Why? are you running pc2700 or pc2100 ram or something? when the fsb hits 200, thats when pc3200 ram is running at the same speed, so if you do have pc3200 or above, no need for a devider..

AC Freezer pro's are ok, but are considered the best bang for buck, meaning there are much better coolers out there, but you're going to be looking at a bit more money..

Had my 805 @ 4.3 ;) 4ghz stable though.. mine was a fair bit hotter than yours though.

I wouldnt replace the thermal pad with arctic silver, my testing shows that the arctic cooling mx1 paste cut 2 or 3 degrees off as5.. each to their own though..
