first of all... WOOHOO 3 thousand posts... AGAIN! after i hit the target last time and 500 "went missing" :(

EDIT: 500 posts just reappeard after going missing for 3 weeks... O_o beware the post theives, they hide in the shadows...

now, the mouse...

every so often it just decides to fly to the top left or top right of the screen, this is really annoying when playing battlefield 2 as you just end up spinning on the spot at random intervals, usually ending with you being shot,

at first i thought it was the mouse so i replaced it, then i thought that it was the USB sockets as both mice were running on USB so today i bought a USB to PS2 plug and ran it off the ps2 socket and its still doing the same thing... so now im thinking maybe its a software issue ? any and all ideas welcome with the exception of covering it in mustard.

What mouse is it actually?

I hate mouse software and just use the standard Microsoft ones.

Not sure the software would do it though, but that's all that is left :(

Sometimes used to get this when using a optical mouse 800Dpi or under, even worse when used without a mat... Might be something similar, what mouse/mat?

mouse is an 850DPI opticle Nyko "airflow" gaming mouse. model 80606

previous mouse was a Logitech B58 Black Premium Optical Wheel Mouse, 450DPI and had ran great without a problem for 3 years, since this new mouse is doing the same thing and my old mouse works fine at my brothers house, i can only presume that neither mice are broken, nor is the USB array, so something else must be causing it.

Not sure if I can help you, as such - but I had a very weird problem with my mouse a few years ago (I'm using a different one now)

It would do the jump thing you are talking about - if I would open paint, choose the brush, and hold the click - it would begin to draw squiggles all by itself.

Originally I wasn't sure what it was and due to the nature of it - I actually thought someone had gained access to my computer and was messing about.

Anyway, I posted the problem up in a tech forum and someone advised me to use 'Windows Washer' - I used that program as a last gasp option, cleaned the system up and the problem never returned again.

As I say, it's not exactly direct help or even help at all - but it gives me a great platform for which to tell my story.....

well this is a very intermittant problem, probably only happens every 5/10 minutes but its enough to annoy, its not so much a squiggle as it is a "dissapears" and "reappears" and sometimes it will just quickly slide over to the top left or bottom left, but all ideas are welcome and will be tried :)

Checked that VNC isn't installed? :p;)

Sorry! Couldn't resist! :o

lol, my systems like fort nox, besides the way the mouse does this is similar each time.

I do have VNC installed but the service is not running, im behind a sygate firewall, with norton 2K5 and a hardware firewall in my router, plus i have nothing of interest to a hacker anyway, im not rich and im not famous :(

Initially it sounded like a classic 'bit of dirt' on the eye, sort of thing - but to change the mouse and still suffer the same problems - is very confusing.

When the guy suggested Windows Washer to me, I thought it was odd. I was very much inexperienced with computers back then (it was a few years ago) but I didn't really think that something like that could even be close to fixing the problem - I thought it would just remove the usual old gunk that your system collects - but it somehow fixed it.

It's a bit of a problem given that it's the sort of thing that most people would just ignore (hence there not being a great deal of support for it) - but hopefully you get it sorted one way or another.

fabric base with a hard coated surface, to be honest... i hadnt thought about the matt, will dig out a fabric one and try it, i hate fabric matts :( 2 weeks and its so grubby and worn that i have to replace it.

Yeah, well you may as well give it a try.

Look at what I'm using..

It's a baking tray.. Which is good because it's usually surrounded by food. But it works as well as anything else on the market and is bigger than pretty much anything out at the moment. Shame it's oh so so messy. :p

:D

You can see my guitar on the floor and the very slight showing of my keyboard.. Hang on. Theres a keyboard on either side... One music and one PC.. The two realms of musician and geek are merging into one.

completely off topic, but what style of music do you make and what software do you use ?

im a nine inch nails fan myself :) i use reason 3.0 and cubase SX with a keyboard so old it would make the dinosours laugh, but at least its got MIDI sockets so all is well.

I'm a Logic man. :) I do stuff like that on my Mac where I compose beats and stuff just as it's a genre that I'm not massively into and it's different to the music I play. But my keyboards are really here because I'm a pianist and my Piano is downstairs.

Thats one of my masterpieces. :p

I used Garageband to make that I think yonks ago. But now I've moved onto Logic in the rare event that I use the eMac for some recording or the like. I have a multitrack recorder that my mum got given by one of her friends (we're in the local musicians circle) for free and she gave it to me me me. :D

Try unchecking the box for `enhanced pointer precision` in control panel/mouse,i found it happens more if this is set to a fast speed.
If my mobile is near pc and goes off,the pointer drifts up-weird!
