Gadgets that would be useful

While trying to move my laptop across my desk and simultaneously trying to make sure the cables hanging off it didn't snag on anything, it occurred to me that a wireless USB hub would be a brilliant gadget. I know you can get routers etc with USB ports on them, and many devices like printers have wifi built in, but I don't always have easy access to the router to configure them (e.g. on University wifi), and routers aren't really what I want.

I have had a google and can't find anything that looks like what I want, but basically I want a USB hub that would connect to your PC via a wireless technology like bluetooth, so all you'd need to do is stick a small dongle in a USB port, and it would be as if you'd plugged the hub in by a cable. Maybe even a pair of dongles, one male USB, one female that would transmit data just like a cable would be a better solution. Supplementary power supply might be needed I suppose. I imagine I have neglected technical problems that have prevented this from being built already, but a device like that would make using limited desk space so much easier.

I was wondering, what other gadgets would people like to have that aren't currently available?

I would like a device that I could attach to myself that would switch channels whenever I walked past a TV that was showing America's Next Top Model, X-Factor, I'm a Celebrity or Dancing on Ice.

PLEASE!

A talking/animated clock modelled on a fish that tells you the time followed by a humourous pun.

Not sure what type of fish would be suitable, I guess a bass would be the most comical.

Your google fu is weak. :p
Wireless USB hubs as you describe were made in the ancient times (a couple of years ago IIRC) but I don't think they are any more.
However a Belkin Network USB hub is still available.

if NFC takes off and gets developed.. usb will be a thing of the past.

I personally I want a STFU button.. not for OP or anyone here as I have one, its called the power button on my computer.. :) it be for all the real people I have to deal with.

What's NFC transfer speed? Does it compete with USB?

kd

Its pants at the moment, and it needs much development but wifi doesn't compete with ethernet yet more people use it at home than ethernet.

Who knows; Bluetooth may get a revamp and move to higher speeds but a lot of company are working on NFC at the moment for mobile phones.

I just like the idea of having a credit card size item that I can place near my computer to transfer data. :)

My garmin running Watch does this through ANT+ you place it near my PC and it uploads the latest data, no wires or opening programmes, uses a dongle thing in a USB
