is the portafilter tight enough? make sure your tamping with enough pressure as well

Btw the classic comes with a pressurised basket now for "perfect crema" when using crap coffee pods so you might need to use the filter pin http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gaggia-Coff...r_1_3?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1354901691&sr=1-3 if your not already

so was the plastic bit causing it or the cure?

I dont understand why they even ship with the pressurised baskets , people who buy gaggias surely dont buy them to use cheap coffee/pods ?
