Installed BF2 the other day on the following machine:

  • Q6600 (was clocked, now to default to make sure it wasn't my overclock
  • 2GB DDR2 333 (Was clocked, now stock to make sure - tested with Memtest)
  • X-Fi Soundcard (Xtreme Music) which sound does sometimes act weird with BF2
  • Vista Ultimate 32
  • Raptor Raid 0
  • DFI P35 T2-R Motherboard
  • 8800GTX always been stock - tried beta, WHQL and modified driversMemtest)

Was just cleaning up ok Karkaland as Assault 29 for 3 score, and then CTD! Arghhh

Tried everything including using PBWeb update tool!

Any ideas ladies and gents?

Game can have its tantrums, tried reinstalling BF2 and I take it PC is fine in other games?

Bioshock plays fine and so does WoW and SOF2 but they're not as stressful as BF2.

Not tried the reinstall so can always give that a shot. I have the 1.41 patch too as I forgot to add that to my opening post.

Restart, run in compatibility mode, reinstall, its happened to me a few times on a very similar setup, reinstalling usually does the trick.

Forgot that I've done the "Run in XP SP2 mode" but looks like a reinstall is called for.

Thanks guys, I'll do that tomorrow :)

bf2 uses loads of ram, in vista total ram usage can go over 2gb, causing bf2 to bomb out. you need to edit the bf2.exe binary to make it large address aware. id put up the edited binary for you but its not on the pc im currently using at the moment.

if im not lazy later on i will fire up the other pc and get the binary for you.

also to easy the ram usage in bf2 on vista set textures to medium and lighting to medium too. xp has no issues but vista is a pain for bf2. hence why i gone back to xp x64.

I thought Vista used resources when free then unloaded when not? DDR is cheap nour days so maybe I'll buy myself some more :)
