Ok, so a few days ago (2, count them, 2!) XP was loading super fast on the boot screen logo.....screen it took about 4 seconds then I was at the login screen.

Now though for some reason, it's taking about 13 seconds :@:@:@

Any ideas?

I've fiddled with prefetcher and nothings changed, also done some boot time defragmentations using Diskeeper but still it's taking just as long.

> Device Manager.

Go to IDE/ATAPI Controllers. Select primary channel. Right click properties. Click the Advance settings tab. Then on the device (0 or 1)that does not have 'device type' greyed out select 'disable' instead of 'autodetect'. This should stop windows trying to find a drive that isn't there.

If you have your IDE channels set up differently simply repat the above for the secondary IDE channel settings.

When I did this my boot time went from 3mins 20 to 35 seconds.

Just did this, boot time went from about 1 minute 27 seconds to 3 seconds when I hit the boot logo.

Wicked.
