Gah, idiot customers.

Feeling peckish?

The droplets coming off the cpu fan had made a puddle on the back of the vga card.

I had one from a greasy place as well. The grease had stopped the cpu fan from working

Those pictures make me feel a bit queezy  I've seen some sites in my time but that's really quite bad!

It was just the way you used the term PC rather than DVR, I had a mental image of you building a standard pc and using a divx encoder, rather than using a pre-built DVR which records a suitably encrypted video stream with a timecode etc etc....lol!

You can use a PC to record analogue or digital video - analogue will use PCI input cards with BNC connectors on them, the DVR software will then encode the stream coming in to MPEG4 (usually). These days IP cameras are becoming the norm, the video is encoded in MPEG4/MJPEG/H264 at the camera and then passed over Cat5 cable to the recording server, it's much more scalable than the old school analogue systems :)

in cases like that, a proper enclosed system would be better. i personally wouldnt offer any warranty on a cctv system in that place unless their hardware was in a proper enclused server rack. it might well still need cleaning out, but there'd be much less of a chance of bunging the damn thing up with putrid grease!

Not going into who's responsible etc.

Maybe some replaceable filters are needed ? They would restrict air flow, however it surely would avoid to some extent the build-up of that kind of gunk.
