Hi all,

I've a couple of issues with my CTR after a week of troubleful ownership. They're not really big problems, but rather annoying nonetheless.

The alarm is oversensitive/faulty to the point that it randomly goes off even with the ultrasonic sensors deactivated. With the sensors on, it goes off anywhere from every half hour or so to two hours. With them off, about every 5 or so hours.

Another thing is I'm getting a knock just before reaching full lock when steering left. I'm probably being paranoid/over cautious as there are known issues with the steering rack. The knock doesn't seem commensurate with steering rack problems, but i'm getting it looked at anyway.

The other problem is the dealer. When viewing the car the guy said if there's any trouble, we can call them, let them know, have the car checked locally and invoice them for any work required.

When I phoned yesterday to make them aware of the problems we're having, I spoke to his colleague who told me that they won't do this incase they're taken for a ride (apparently they have been before/my arse they have). He also told me that audio and alarm systems are not covered by the warranty. Surely if the alarm keeps going off it's not fit for purpose, i.e faulty and may not work properly if there is an attempted break in? There must be some leverage with the sales of goods act here?

As for the knock, he said all mechanical problems are covered, but either they need the car themselves to fix, or they can sort out an 'insurance warranty claim' for upto £1,000. What is an 'insurance warranty'? How does it work? Am I being fed bull just so I go away and stop bothering them nopw they have my money (probably)?

Despite this, the car is spot on. There's no handling problems, and it goes like the proverbial and i'm happy with it whatever happens.

This is why I would have saved a bit more and gone for a facelift, the steering rack issue was pretty much sorted with them.

The alarm should be covered. Do you have an extended manufacturer warranty then?

Put it in writing ASAP, tell them they fix it or you are rejecting the goods, it will be a fight but the quicker you start it the sooner they will agree to your terms.

Is this a Honda main dealer?

I was talking to an independant dealer about their warrenty when looking at a vRS. I asked what it didn't cover- "electrical and brakes" so... if the ecu died it wouldn't be covered. "no" and say for example a coil pack or maf sensor "nope both electrical. It basically covers engine and gearbox" hmmmm... vague.

Hope you get the issues sorted though. Putting it in writing as mrk1 said sounds like a good idea :)

Honda main dealers are rubbish. I had to argue tooth and nail to get the steering rack issue sorted. Warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on.

I loved the car, but next time I get a Honda I'll get one that's out of warranty.

The garage I bought from wasn't a Honda main dealer. I'll just see what my local Honda service center digs up. Not much, hopefully :/

I'll defo write a letter if they don't start cooperating...

On a side note, did you look at the warranty before you bought it, did hey explain it, did they miss-sell it?

Anyway, write the letter now stating the "they fix it or you reject it" otherwise it will be too late to be effective. Don't wait this out.

I had a similar problem with my Accord, regular as clockwork at around 2am the alarm would go off, it turned out that Honda were aware of this problem and some sort of software upgrade sorted the problem out for me so it might be worth having a word with Honda to see if the same is true for the Civic.
