Gainward 6800GT - OverClocking

Jacob334 said:
depending on what your idle/load temps are i would say it would be able to go to ultra speeds 400/1100 as my leadtek can go to 420/1150.

download rivatuner and run 3dmark or a game and check your temps first tho,
but im sure a gainward would be able to get atleast ultra speeds

Thanks Jacob334,
what does rivatuner do ! ?
If it is a Over Clocking software, then i have Cool Bits, which is a Nvidia Over clocking kit.
it has slide bars to allow me to change the core & memory settings.

That is some fast settings on your VGA.
Do you not get problems when playing BF2 ?

Set your core speeds in increments of 20MHz at a time using the "Clock frequencies" in the Advanced tab of display propoerties is you are using coolbits.

Then test using 3dMark ( go through it a cpouple of times back to back). If all is stabble and you get no funny looking objects on your screen, then increase the speed as above (so to speak) until it becomes unstable.. When it's unstable, go backwards until it becomes stable again..

to go any higher, you may need to change the supplied voltages and for that you need a decent cooler..

thanks Admiral Huddy,
I will increase the Ovewr clocking in steps of 20mhz on the core clock, and run 3D Mark. Should / Can I change the memory clock to higher speed ! ?
What benefit will I get from the increase in memory clock ! ?
I thing the CoolBits comes with temp monitoring, so i check the temp increases on the 6800GT.
What cooler should I get as a upgrade replacment ?
many thanks

You can try increasing the memory by very small increments.. It's trial and error i'm affraid.. there are no fixed rules. What works for one may not work for another.. If you get problems, you can always change the settings down.

The temp monitor is a feature of the Nvidia drivers anyway.. so are the clock/memory settings.. Coolbits just unlocks them.. How kind of them :)

As for cooling ..

Arctic Cooling NV5 Rev.3 (6800 Series) VGA Silencer (HS-009-AR)

or

Artic Cooling Accelero X1 Cooler (6800/7800 Series) (SY-001-AR)

Thanks for the info on the coolers.
I think I will invest in one

I will have a gone at incrementing the core clock in 20 point increments.
Shall I run the Ed Mark each time.
Also what software monitoring programe is there that can show FPS while i am playing on line ?
both a cheap and superb coolers :)

Got my first gen GT up to 420/1120. Got water on it for the quietness but you'll get that on air too.

Wonder if theres anyway I can up the voltage on the core to see how far I can push it :D

Are you using the CoolBits software, as i am not sure if voltage is adjustable in there, if in BIOS I would think.
I will be glad if I can get my 6800GT up to 420 ! ! !
